this is a really good feature but what's holding it back a bit is that you can only use it in a DRUM program. I think this feature would really shine in an INSTRUMENT program. i really want to set up the crossfade & then have it easily mapped out across all the pads & use it with the filters, etc.

i realize this could cause some possible confusion or conflicts since the aftertouch could also be controlling filters, lfo, ect. but i think they could work well together simulatneously if wanted. otherwise it would be great to assign a qlink to the crossfade, and be able to crossfade across all 3 layers.

does this make sense? maybe this would be better in the requests thread...

g- its a nice enough thought - i mean the three way thing for sure, but i think its stronger here in drums as aftertouch - for me its all about simple / immediate functions, this is just that......

and to shift it to slider would add an extra step in the way of just touching pads....mbe in insts' there should be an aftertouch > layer as well as the filter stuff, why not - mbe a multi faceted control would shine, i often link things in this way, to get very liquid sounding parts.

aftertouch to sample Xfade is something i will hope to see in INST programs as well, SootyG. totally with you on that. and i think i know a way to see that happen. that's where it would be the best, INST programs is where aftertouch is REALLY key anyway. meanwhile it's a great feature and i am sure i can figure out where it can be made to be useful in DRUM pgms.

but check it out: currently, drum pgms offer 3 layers, which sample layer 1 and 2 get crossfaded. inst pgms offer, technically, 32 layers! ie, if you set a sample to play from: notes 0-127, and another sample right below to play from notes 0-127, you have a layered sound.

what if these "layers" one and two could be set to xfade by aftertouch? chronologically, the 1st and 2nd layer would be the ones effected by this function, same as in DRUM mode. the rest of the layers, IF ANY, would just play as layers, but the first two could be xfaded depending on the parameter.

i realize this could cause some possible confusion or conflicts since the aftertouch could also be controlling filters, lfo, ect. but i think they could work well together simulatneously if wanted.

no more so than in DRUM programs, if you ask me. simultaneous use offers sooo much in terms of shaping. arebee's term "liquid" is exactly what i like to hear, and what i think of when i imagine aftertouch used "correctly." have you set an LFO to aftertouch at a rate of like .06 (note: i use doubletime BPM) and a very low modulation? this offers just a tiny bit of stress to your pad when you push it real hard, and it smooths out when you let go. it's soo subtle but it's still there - couple that with a gentle aftertouch-filter and you have a very convincing timbre change with pressure, exactly the way a "real" instrument sounds!

your "otherwise" of realtime qlink to crossfade is a nice idea too, and i'd like to see that in addition to the preexisting DRUM xfade function.

march, march march.
