afternoon all,

so i've been working on my live chops lately - with bare seq's set up to layer
each element live.

my problem is that when you record on a seq - even if you turn overdub off -
you can't jump to another sequence without hitting stop...

any work arounds for this that anyone's figured out?

i'd like to jump between seq's a little if i can. otherwise I'll just have to keep
adding track after track on the same seq, or stop.

thoughts?

Yes, this has come up a few times. I think JJ has received more than one request to change this somehow, but there seems to be some system limitations that are beyond his/her/whomever's control. From the very bottom of the JJ FAQ page:

1."NEXT SEQ." cannot be carried out after "REC" or"DUB".
2."REC" or"DUB" cannot be carried out after "NEXT SEQ.".
<<< these are uncorrectable. >>>

This might have something to do with the machine holding the new recording in a temporary memory location that can't be "cemented in place" until the sequencer is stopped, possibly due to processor limitations. What can I say the thing just isn't designed as a live looper...

totally....

i thought that was the case - seems like a silly limitation to program into it...

ahh well, just work around it... that KP3 is starting to look not just attractive, but perhaps essential!

cheers for that mate.

there was a workaround not long ago.
it was fine with "Next Sequence: Immediate Start" or "Next Sequence: Immediate Play".

about the quote from the faq, the beginning of it is important

Nexe sequuence:END OF SEQUENCE( Normal next seq. mode)
At the time of this mode,
1."NEXT SEQ." cannot be carried out after "REC" or"DUB".
2."REC" or"DUB" cannot be carried out after "NEXT SEQ.".
<<< these are uncorrectable. >>>

do you see what i mean ?

now in 4.80 it's seems to be broken, probably since the latest change about the "next sequence" in 4.97

Thanks for pointing that out truvc, I sorta failed to grasp the beginning of the FAQ entry for some reason. I can't remember it working any other way, though -- but that's just my experience with it. I'm all for that getting changed if it's possible.

yeah same.... but now that i think of it, it's always been that way.
i could never do this even with the akai os.

maybe i'll ask JJ... i'm sure he gets sick of the same q's though...

I'd like to hear more about how you do what you do t_bias, what is your method and hows it working out?

thanks

ok, i forgot to mention one important detail.

in fact, with prior JJ os, by using "immediate play" or "immediate start", you could switch seq after recording, BUT from the main screen only or something like that.

I just tried it with 4.91 and it will immediately play another sequence after recording, without having to stop. This currently doesn't work on 4.98. I haven't tried it on any OS inbetween these two.

This is the topic i posted

wicked - thanks bro... might try playing with that.

not really into immediate start - unless you can use the next seq. page...
it's too jumpy and unpredictable to change seq's precisely using the dang
data wheel...

I guess you could use another sequencer to send it the PC command to change the sequence on the beat... another conspiracy to sell more MPCs?

Just kidding... actually you could do that with something simpler like an electribe since it sends end of seq PC commands. Don't know how well the timing would line up. Of course that's kinda idiotic but it might work...
