Given that you had a programeer with the right skillset to write this does anyone think it'd be possible to write an OS that turns the 1k into a synth and not a sampler?

I'm only throwing this out there for a bit of fun, I can see a few limitations with audio quality immediatly but in theory it's possible yeah?

OS 2 can already be a sample based synth.
Any sampler with that kind of control and the right raw waveforms can be used for synthesis purposes. A sampler has the benefit of being able to play any waveform too, i sample bits of mixer feedback to create my "synths" for instance, (all my other sounds are from records.)

I guess you mean could JJ create actual oscillators to generate rather than just play back waveforms?

The answer to that i do not know!

What i do know is im not suprised to be surprised with this OS anymore.

it's just a cpu and some other bit, very much like a modern digital va synth. i'm sure it's possible. whether or not it'd be capable of doing anything else at the same time is another matter!

Yeah, that's what i thought.

Yep i was talking about putting oscilators in it.

I've used it as a wavetable synth a fair bit but the allogarhythm fks with the sound a fair bit sometimes causing weird aliasing and clicks on longer notes (i posted a thread about it a while back and seems there's not much we could do about it)

Cheers!
