Mystery Glitch

If anyone has any idea at all what might be causing this PLEASE post coz it's driving me fukkin nuts:

A few weeks back i got the new pad fix upgrade from mpc stuff and installed them EXACTLY how they supposed to be, and ended up with some really weird glitches, heres just a few,

*Out of no where the data wheel will only control the screen reso
*Random pads will make the bank switch from A to C and sometimes B
*Random cursor buttons will also switch the bank to C
*MAIN and sometimes MODE will switch the bank to C also

I've emailed the dude at mpc stuff, who suggested it was an os problem, but this is not the case as i have installed several jj os and both the old and newer versions of the akai os. I am currently using the jj os2, and have the same problems.
I then suggested to him that it was a PCB board fault, so he sent me a new one, which i have installed but nothing has changed.

Another thing i thought might be the problem is something metal is touching somewhere, and for a short while there it was working fine when the faceplate was either completely off or on without the screws in! The glitches returned though when i lean my hand on most parts of the faceplate.

I've even removed the base that holds the PCB board and covered the area underneath with plastic, thinkin that maybe the slightest bit of pressure was causing the PCB board to touch metal somewhere.

Another thought i had is that perhaps there is a difference between the older blue style mpc1000's and the new black ones, as mine is a couple years old now, so if someone could let me know if they've successfully installed the new pad setup in an older 1000 that would at least eliminate that one from my possibilities list.

sounds like you got a short in there somewhere
detach the pads altogether from the mpc and turn it on
see if the same thing happens. i bet it won't. report back and i'll describe next move if my hunch is right

yeah it only happens when i put the new pads in. I've never had anything like this happen with the old pads. Spot on with the hunch though, no problem when i remove them altogether, also sometimes it'll jump to a different bank without me even touchin anything at all.

sounds like it's not the pads but instead something on the R operations board that is metal touching metal. this is gonna take some careful work on your part, dunno if you're up to it and i probably shouldn't try to walk you through it over the internet cuz i'm not even close to 100% on this

i've propped the mpc up on a bit of an angle and put a thick bit of glass in that i got cut to the shape of the screen, i used to use it a while back but put it back in there not only coz it's clearer than the plastic screen but i'm thinkin maybe it'll lift the faceplate up a bit to reduce some pressure somewhere where metal might be touching. It's been workin fine since, but thats just today so fingers crossed. This poor mpc's been gutted so many times, they built like tanks!

i had the same problem. i'm handy but not that handy. i took to a local repair shop and they fixed it up. it was a short. at some point i must have put undo pressure around the data wheel area and it had caused. same exact symptoms and its been good as new since i got it fixed up.

I'VE BEEN HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM!!!!!!

NO ONE could tell me what this problem was. I bought the mpc used and it worked fine, 'til a week or so ago.

Is it possible to fix it on my own or would you suggest I seek professional help? I called VST Services and I have to ship it to them, they want $35 for diagnostics & $65 an hour!! COMPLETELY out of the question for me right now......

curious about the glass....im doing the opposite when i put pressure on this one part, all is fine.

i also replied to the other thread.

i have old pads, its nothing to do with the new ones.

forat told me where to look, will try tonite, and get back.

to the guy that had it repaired, care to elaborate so i can fix mine?

I am only getting this problem when i install the new pads.
And i've taken the new ones out and put the old ones back in (and vice versa like 4 times now!) and all is back to normal, so maybe the new pads sit a little higher or something than the old pads, causing a bit of pressure somewhere to cause a short.
It is at least rounded down to a short somewhere, considering that we are all having similar problems, and that graasmin has gotten his fixed on the basis that it was a short.
Next step now i think, if we want to have a go at fixing it ourselves, is to find out what forat said about where to look: houtex1, could you help us out with this one?
An alternative step would be to do what graasmin did and take it to a repair shop: graasmin, was it just like an electrical repair style shop you took it to or a music store? How long did it take and what was the cost?
