is that possible? if not it would be a great feature to use a qlink fader for realtime stretch feature of a sample while a seq is playing..
this would be great for adapting some longer rhythmic samples of unknown speed with a mpc beat.
thx swinxx

assuming you've chopped note per note, try setting each pad to NOTE ON
then set each recorded note's duration to last up until just before the next note
then each sample to ALTERNATE LOOP, causing the sample to reverse playback upon completion. edit the end point so the loop is relatively smooth, though you may find minor clicks

now you can slow down/speed up your track OR pitch up/down your chopped sample in realtime with MUCH less noticeable warping than timestretching.

But no, the MPC1000 does not have elastic audio like Ableton etc. and I wouldn't hold your breath.

However, as Nyms tip shows you can often make machines do things that aren't in the feature list

good tip nym.... u so smart!

heh try it first before you pat me on the back for it...
it's somewhat painless to set this up if you have a 16 sample chop pgm...
but try setting 64 samples to ALTERNATE LOOP 1 at a time.
it reminds me of the Akai OS before "GPE"

some day i hope there is a "GSE," Global Sample Edit (upgrade to SAMPLE LIST), in which you can specify a WHOLE range of SAMPLES and edit their START/END, ORIGINAL NOTE, and LOOP MODE by bulk

this would make setting this type of pgm up a heartbeat.

ive been thinking about "realtime" time stretch a little and have thought of something that could work with a little jj magic.it is a little long winded, and probably more for live mpc jammming but bear with me!

at the moment we can set qlink to tempo and a qlink to sample layer.
if both are set to the same qlink the tempo changes and the layer changes.

also when patch phrases are time stretched (by increasing the release value when you make em) they always sound time stretched even when playing at the original tempo. ideally the time stretch characteristics should only come in when you slow them down.

so heres the work around idea:
create two or more copies of a sample.
leave one as it is and time stretch the other(s).
patch phrase all samples.
assign them all to one pad.
set qlink to tempo and layer.
when you slow the tempo the layers change and you only get the time stretch sound when the sample is playing slower than the original tempo.

at the moment the layers only change when samples are retriggered so it doesn't work convincingly.

whats the jj magic?
if sample crossfade (or aftertouch data ) could be controlled by qlinks, you could fade between the unstretched patch phrase and the streched one(and being able to fade between all 3 layers or simulting the fade would be awesome)

aside from all this , sample crossade/aftertouch from qlinks would be useful for all sorts of other reasons too.

^ nice, good thinking mikolo. i hahd a similar idea back in the day about 3 copies of the same sample set to different sampling rates, so you could "Sweep" down the sampling rate during play. i never ended up using it much though cuz it takes so long to set up.

cheers nym,
yeah it wouldn't be worth going through all that just to make a beat fit in time, its definitely more for when your after "the whole tracks slowing down and getting mangled vibe" or just mixing in some loops from the mpc while djing.

what would be cool for your global sample edit idea, would be editing by program, or a selction of pads within a program -a bit like the whole range selection in gpe. Imagine with your bit crush idea:bit crush a program and assign the new samples to a chosen layer, or a padbank in a couple of moves, that'd be sweet.
