I've never messed with OS1, I just got OS2 though and I printed off the manual so I can read it more. They say 2 is based off of 1, so those of you who are familiar with OS1, do you think it would be a lot harder for me to just start with 2? Should I read 1's manual first, does that explain the new concepts in better detail? Or would it still work out smooth going from the free jjos to OS2? I'd like to hear your thoughts because even skimming some of the os2 manual, I'm kinda thinking "do they assume i know what they're talking about?" in certain areas.

I'm pretty new to the JJ os (both versions)...
The one thing about the manual is that the poor english translations are not always very helpful...

os1 is a lot more like the akai os than os2, except better of course!

I could see benefits playing with os1 first.

although you could be guinea pig for all those others considering the great leap for mpc kind.

Simply use OS2. Saying that their is a benefit to using JJ OS1 prior to JJ OS2 is like saying there is a benefit to start out using Akai OS 1.23 before using any of the JJ OS...
