MPC1000 as midi controller?

What are the midi-assigning possibilities for the MPC1000 besides the pads? I'm interested in using the MPC1000 as a midi controller and was wondering if any of the buttons or the Q-link sliders can transmit midi.

Nice. Is that about it though? I was hoping for something that could transmit midi note numbers other than the pads. I bet there's software that allows you to convert the cc to note numbers. But I wonder if they can be converted to multiple note numbers using a single cc message. I'm not a MIDI wiz so I have no idea about this really but I can imagine something like that if you can adjust the range of a cc (from the normal 0 - 127) to something much narrower and have each of those values become different note numbers...

You can set the range you want the controllers to work in.

If you want anything besides controllers you will have to use external remapping either with a computer (multiple apps available for that) or something like a Midi Solutions Event Processor. However, you have to have a solid grasp of midi before you will understand how remapping works or won't work. Going from controllers to aftertouch is no problem as it's a one single parameter to another but notes require two separate messages with some way to time the space in between. That extra data has to come from somewhere else besides the controller that's being remapped.

There's plenty of good basic info on the midi standard online just keep checking that stuff out and you'll see what's possible.

im curious, in what scenario would you like to transmite note data from a slider.

i mean you could pad trigger a synth vst and use the qlink to change the pitch, or trigger a sampler and use the qlink to change the pad number so you could scroll thru sounds mapped out accross the keyrange.

Why dont you just tap the pads? Or link the qlink directly to the pitch?
I cant think of a really useful application for what you are asking for...

I would just like to have more midi controller options on the MPC without sacrificing any of the 16 pads or using another midi controller.

More specifically, I would like to use it to control the Drum Rack in Ableton Live:

You'll notice on the right hand side there's a slider that runs up and down to change which pads you're controlling. This slider can be controlled via midi but only by using a trick utilizing midi pitch to switch octaves and assigning different note numbers to different controls. It would be nice to switch between different octaves using the Q-link slider.

On further research, it does look like what I imagined is already possible using midi translator programs or something like Plogue Bidule.
