JJ OS1 4.99 Bit crusher

Hey guys, next week when my paypal account is activated I'll purchase the JJ OS1 4.99 for the 1k. I still want to work with this version for a while. (I don't feel I need the extra features yet JJ OS 2 has to offer) Anyway, I was wondering wether the bit crusher effect is a good feature or not. I'm also thinking about buying a s950 for the 12 bit stuff. So can this bit crusher replace 12bit sampling on a let's say an sp 12 or an s950? Or is the bit crusher function just a feature to make the speclist look more intresting? Let me know your opinions and experiences about this one.

bit crusher is good, sampling rate at 11025 sounds just the way i like it, but i don't use it often because it's best to do this kind of stuff post composition in DAW, where you have more control.



^ better sounding (more specific control), automatable, non-destructive, more convenient.

the interesting thing about JJos bit converter is that it is PRE tune and PRE filter. ie, if you convert it down to 11025 to get that nice high freq stuff going on and then put that sample on realtime tune, you will be changing the tune of that added freq. this can be a cool effect, but it is equal times undesirable. regardless, this is something you DON'T GET when applying this as an overlaying VST in DAW.

one really good thing is having a bass multisampled INST pgm, converting the samping rate, and then putting lowpass filter+aftertouch on. you can then control how much of that crushing you hear. very nice for crunchy lofi basslines.

Yo Nym, I read ur posts about that, the multiband crushing. Looks nice, but I like it to keep it inside the box.

Crushing and filtering for lo-fi bass sounds good. Still wondering how it works with drum sounds.

vst effects arnt that convienient.

if you track out your beats for finishing/improvement in a DAW software, they couldn't be more convenient. it's certainly more convenient than bluebox or importing samples to a PC for chopping

yeh i guess, i just feel like smashing them(computers) 2 peices after a shit day at the office.
