time stretching with the MPC 1000 (JJ OS)

hey guys, i'm sure this has been discussed a million times, but i'm having some trouble with the time stretching application in the MPC. i've been trying to speed up a sample that I have (which happens to be a loop), and I want it to match the tempo. i want to be able to adjust the speed of the sample to a tempo that i think is good, then set the tempo of the track to that. the problem is, when i check detect tempo, the MPC tells me the BPM is something ridiculous like 145 BPM, when it clearly isn't. i've read the manual, and for some reason it still isn't clicking. if anyone could recommend a way to match the tempo of the sample to the track or explain it a little easier, it would be greatly appreciated.

play the sample out at its original tempo/pitch. and tap the " tap tempo " button along to its beats.
you may also be putting in an ill length to make it come up with 145bpm. its calculated in bars.

another way to find original tempo-

chop the loop out and assign the sample to pad A1.
record 1 instance of the loop on the very first beat - (have quantise on so its exactly in place).
now play back - start at a really low tempo and increase speed until there is no gap between the end of the sample and the start of the loop.

when there is no more gap you have the tempo.

)of course - make sure your loop legnth and sequence legnth are the same!)

its longer to explain than it is to do btw.

i dont use the timestretch much so am not too familiar with it, so cant be any more help without switching the mpc on.

Let say you got a beat on seq 1 and a mell that dosn't fit .Go to a new seq and rec the mell that did'nt fit . It won't be the same bpm.
while still in the new seq Hit pad 6 (Trim) then f6 (edit) scroll to the right to timestretch . Change new tempo to the original seq tempo and press do it.

If it gets to be a big gap in bpm it gets to be destrutive of sound quality. Sometimes it sounds cool tho.



another cool thing with the timestretch is, lets say you have a sample playin in a beat that's 80 bpm. take that sample go to trim pad 6, then edit . Scroll to the timestretch is and put in the new bpm double or half. for instense take it from 80 to 40 , keep as a new sample, then go to program and set the tune plus 12 of it original setting. lets say you had it at 3.53 , you woul want to make it 15.53. (on a new pad of course cause you don't want to mess with the old sample.)

Just a little trick to make things more full soundin. give it a try
