Best OS for my simple workflow & limited experience

Hi guys, new 1k user and looking for best OS option and just wanted some advice on which to use. OK there's 2 considerations:

1. I'm a new user, new to (hardware) samplers, etc etc... if i stick with either akai OS2 or JJ OS1 free, i can use the MPC 1K Tutorials i've just bought to get to know my way around really well. If i go with OS2 (or even OS1 4.9x) I won't have this to help me.

2. My workflow is really simple, I choose some drum samples I like (never mess around with them), program some beats, record some MIDI patterns for my synths, sample the synths back into the MPC and trigger the synth samples from there. (I never mess around with the sound when it's in the MPC, i do all that on the synth before sampling, or later in a DAW). Build song, resample individual tracks, export to DAW to master.

So i don't need any complex features, just basic MIDI features and simple sample/pattern playback.

Anyone recommend one OS over the other for how i use my MPC?

Dude you should mess with the sounds! Other than that go with the free jj3.08.

yeah i kinda like really lush clean sounds which i program on my synths and i've been perfecting my drum samples collection to sound the way i like them ready to use straight off... so i'm not sure i'll ever get into mashing my sounds up in the mpc... but who knows, maybe the more tuned into using the mpc i get, maybe i'll give it a go gradually...

yeah so i've already got JJOS free and of course Akai OS2, but i'm still learning the machine at the moment... everyone says try 1.4x or OS2 and see if you like it, but i don't think that 'd help me right now as i only just know what i'm doing with akai OS and JJOS free...

i've read loads and loads in the jjos thread, am reading the stansteez manual and the 1k tutorials too, but just wondering if anyone who works in the same simple way as i do had any thoughts on this?

Your workflow is very similar to mine (besides the fact that I sample live bass, less synths). As far as mixing goes it's all the same. I've worked with AKAI OS 2, JJ OS free, I & II and it's all the same. Right now I am using OS 2, because I like the filter and the looping feature better. Also, I like the new Trim Mode a lot, which lets you edit samples while auditioning the sound with pitch, filter etc. assigned. Also, sample assignment has generally improved a lot. I seldom use ADSR and Pattern Edit or portamento. I'd just advise you to test OS 1 and/or 2 and then decide what suits your needs best.

are you looking for most potent sequencing power?

Nym, no i don't need advanced sequencing really, just very basic stuff like note-on! Any dynamic changes to the sound i'll do live whilst sampling it into the mpc, or sequence using my synth's sequencers.

Stan, thanks, if they're all pretty much the same then i guess i'll stick JJOS free for now until i've finished all the tutorials and am happy, then maybe try both JJOS 1.49 and OS2, with the help of your wicked manual of course, and see which I like best!

I'm not looking for the more complex features so there's no rush to change or anything, knowing what i'm doing with the help of good tutorials is more important...

as well as simple workflow, was just a bit worried about the transition from OS1 to OS2 at a later date, as i've read about the compatibility issues and didn't want to suddenly find my OS1 songs don't work in OS2 even if i'd wanted them to.
