OK, bear with me here (and THANK YOU in advance if you read all of this). The way I like to make beats is the following (JJOS 1, 4.98):
I like to load a few kicks, snares, hats; I then make a basic beat with my one shots. Then, I like to layer my beat with drum loops and such. However, I can't listen to my beat while browsing in the LOAD screen, so it seems like a guessing game all the time trying to find a beat that matches, as far as pitch/timbre go. So, I constantly have to load a loop, see if it matches my beat (pitch/timbre), & if it doesn't, delete loop, go find another one until one matches. This is a pain in the ass! I don't want it to be a guessing game like that.
So, last night I created PROGRAMS that have all my drum loops sorted out by BPM. I saved the programs in the same folders as the beats so I wouldn't have to save the samples again. This way, I can make my beat, load one of the loop programs, & get one that fits without having to rinse & repeat in the LOAD window. Most of these loops are 1MB, and when you fill up banks A & B with these, it takes up a lot of memory (I have the 128MB, by the way). Also, if I choose to SAVE ENTIRE MEMORY with my tracks, all these drum loops (that I'm not using) are going to be SAVED AGAIN!!!
How do I get around this? Can I? Do I need to go back to the guessing game for the sake of not wasting memory with these unused beats in the programs? I really want to use programs to avoid the guessing game. Does anybody have/had this same issue? How do you manage your memory (internal/CF/HD) without having to play the guessing game?????
