Tap Tempo on Pad Feature, Screwed Up?

Does anyone who uses OS2 or XL use the Tap Tempo (on pad) option? I'm using XL 1.08 right now, and trying to save some wear and tear on the Tap button so I switched the option to Tap Tempo on pad 16.

It doesn't seem right. Any time I hit pad 16 a few times in a row, it changes my damn tempo! Shouldn't we have to tap the pad WHILE HOLDING down the Tap Tempo button, to adjust the tempo? Isn't that how it used to be in a previous OS version??

no. it was always just tap the button (or pad) by itself a few times to set the tempo. there has never been any 2-button behavior like you are describing. i think it is better the way it is.

Well... that would explain why tapping tempo on pad never worked properly for me. I always assumed it would require holding the Tap Tempo button.

Sooty-- So why do you prefer it the way it is? Using this feature pretty much ruins the normal functionality of whichever pad you set as the Tap Tempo pad. There's nothing like trying to add some percussion and then accidentally making a huge change in tempo...

Try using a larger Tap Average, that way it requires more taps to make it change.

well, why hit 2 buttons when you can just hit one?

best for you maybe would be to get a footswitch and assign it to tap tempo. MODE + OTHER -> FOOTSW

I think this feature would make more sense if it only changed the tempo when holding down the Tap Tempo button, but I won't make a fuss since nobody agrees with me!

but holding down the tap tempo button is already for note repeat mode / TC selection

might cause problems

the way it's set up now is that either you dedicate one pad to be your tap tempo button v 2.0 extra large edition or you just use the original tap tempo button. I think that way is fine.

I think it's designed for live usage if anything. If you're playing a live set and need to adjust your tempo really smooth-like while still playing samples on the pads. How are you gonna press two buttons at once if both of your hands are hitting pads?

True, I do keep forgetting about the live MPC players/DJ's! It must be nice with the dedicated rubber pad.

(happily goes back to just tapping the plastic button )
