Midi program change disappointment...

i was very hopeful of using the midi prog change option in os2xl with my multitimbral sound module, but maybe i'm just not getting the point?! the old method of playing different voices at the same time was to create a multi-voice setup in the module, and assign a different midi channel to each voice, then sequence it from the mpc by selecting a different midi channel for different tracks. the annoying part was assigning the midi channel, cause if you then wanted to try some other voices its a pain to modify.

with the mpc midi prog change option its easy to just dial through the numbers and test out a few voices on the sound module. this led me to think that i could just have a different prog number on each track, and hey presto - multitimbrality! its not working though - no matter what midi program numbers i choose, they all play just the one voice on the module. I have tried the PC and PCseq options to no avail.

am i not understanding? and if not, whats the point of being able to set multiple PC/PCseq options?

yeh i always set up my performance, with each midi channel hving its own patch., and change the patches on my synth.

its just a pain changing on the synth - lots of button presses. it would be easy just to use the jog wheel on the mpc. this works if i am just using one voice, but any more than that and they all end up using the same one. would it make a difference if i used a different midi channel for each, and then utilised the midi program change, or am i going to have to do some work on the synth?

yep, thats the way, set a PC in each track, on separate channels. PC's can be set to vary in the seq's but channel separation's the key to stopping all synths following the same change instructions, (unless u get into coding sysex strings).

Each instrument on your sound module needs to be on a seperate midi channel.Tracks on the mpc should output on different midi channels. program change messages tell a device "change the program on this midi channel to program 'x' "
