MPC100 button replacement (e.g Mode button)

Guys,
I need to replace/fix some buttons on my MPC1000. Right now the 'Mode' button is not responding which makes the macschine unusable.

I also have to replace the pads but that is another days work (though it is pretty annoying that the MP breaks down in the first place).

I have got my hands on some replacement buttons from MPCStuff but I am not sure how to execute the fix.

There are videos which detail a 'workaround' fix but I have not found a video detailing the replacement.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on this...is there a step by step guide. Do I need a soldering iron for the job?

Thanks dude, I do have the pad fix and will be doing that later. Right now, the "Mode" button is my highest priority.

The MPCstuff people have some videos on Youtube to cover pad and screen replacement but but not buttons.

for the mode button you first should pull the cover off the machine and see if the plastic button is screwed up or the tact switch. Its most likely the tact switch anyways but its worth a shot. You can get a pack of 20 for like $3. You will need to solder but its not too difficult.

hey poundaproblem, you are all over this place!
i would very much like to know where to get 20 tact switches for 3$-
my mode and down cursor are both very bad. and i have to push them hard as hell some times.. disturb the flow alot...

mpcstuff sells them for 8$ each and since im in europe i have to pay 20 $ only for shipping...
some time ago i read that you could actually buy much cheaper tact switches somewhere that work exactly the same.

i dont know anything about electronic components so i would need someone with knowledge to recommend the exact working model.
however i do actually own a heat-adjustable soldering iron so i think that it would not be to big problem to do it myself.

last time I bought them I got them off of ebay. I believe they are 6 x 6 x 5 tactile switches. Can someone confirm?

instead of
1 for 8$ + shipping (for me 10-15$) from mpcstuff

when you get them, change the up. down, left, right, shift and mode switches. They get a lot of use and will die anyways.

so its just to unplug all the white connectors and the flat thingy from the pad section, unscrew the pcb board. flip it (do i need to remove all the buttons before or will they stay on when doing the work?)
desolder the fauly tact switch/s and solder the new one uuh , the same way as the other ones, right?

thats pretty much it.

I like to remove the plastic buttons just so i dont break them. Theres a little suction device you should get to remove the solder instead of pulling against the board. Other than that its pretty straight forward.

i am doing this right now. how is it I take off the white connectors?

I'm kinda late to the party, but did you try deoxit first? It worked wonders on some stiff buttons on my 1k.
