Okay.... So I had been using the 500 for about a year, off and on......whenever i would get frustrated with it, i would use software, electronic drums, etc

About 2 weeks ago,i picked up a 1k with jj02xl 1.43.....
I can't belive how awesome and easy this thing is to use....so far i've been able to do any and everything i ever dreamed of,including laying down real bass and guitar audio track inside my mpc....I've done this and more without reading a manual,it just comes Very natural, maybe because of the time i put in with the 500.

But now I have a couple of questions
JJ has many different version of os...So would it be safe to say, that since xl cost more, that its the best with the newest features?

I can't imgaine my 1k being any better than it is now....but since its free should i always update my os when a new one comes out?

And is there a difference between direct record in the akai os and the Audio Tracks in JJ's?

JJ seems to be strecthing the 1k to its limits and beyond...has anyone ever noticed thier 1k slowing down or becoming unstable after one of his updates?

Almost 100 views and no replies....mmmm
I must have broken the unspoken rules of the JJ Forum, cuz I've seen cats post retarded stuff like...
"How come when i push play i dont hear nothing" and they get replies
Aye....i'm new to this forum........It wont happen again

For the most part yes there is a comparison chart on his page that explains the differencses you made not need or use all of the features in the xl

sometimes, I found that when using just the free os JJ 3.08 worked best on my 1k due to the jog sensitivity

When you record an audio track in jj it does not go straight to disk, it is held in the Rams memory until you save it

hello,

If you have jj os2xl you can upgrade to the latest version if you want. It's the os2xl 2.XX series with new features (multitimbrality and so on)

To sum up there are 4 versions of the JJ Os. One is free and the others are paying versions. Now the update rhythm has slowed down but there was a new paying os each year at the beginning (os1,os2,os2xl)

In my opinion the newest version is the best ( well you have to take into account that each time a major update is released there are many bugs)

Akai direct record is a feature of the 2K5. The main drawback of JJ audio track is that they can't loop while recording. There was some complaints from users about timing and so on but nothing came up in the forum recently.

With the recent release of the os2xl 2.XX series it seems the timing and stability was affected. I upgraded to os2xl 2.12 and didn't have a problem last time I did a beat so it seems to be OK.

Anyway it's worth upgrading and trying by yourself.

There is nothing to loose except your time

Thanks for the Input,I guess i'll stick with 2xl 1.43 since it does everything i need it to do
The only thing i havent figured out is the tempo...
let say i make a beat that's 92 bpm, sometimes when im auditioning other sounds by hitting the pads, the tempo wil
change....even when im not using the tap tempo

I never use the feature but i believe that the tap temp feature is also on one of the pads and should be adjusted from the "mode" "other" screen

Turn off TAP-TEMPO in the OTHER screen.

FYI there was a timing bug between versions 1.38 and 2.01 that JJ finally corrected in 2.01. JJ also made the latest version even more stable when max voices are approached. I would highly recommend the latest JJOSXL version atm. Your call.

[ I would highly recommend the latest JJOSXL version atm. Your call.[/quote]

Just tried to update to 2.11,and so far it aint working out so good...
after i went to reboot the 1k,my screen went dim,and it s just flashing jj os2xl ver 2.11 installed, but it wont go any further than that.
below that it says...tap tempo + power on --> os1
I tried that and it gave me jj os 4.99....but the screen was still really dim
I'm searching the forums, the net, and jj's site ,but so far i havent found the ansewer for where i went wrong
Was i suppose to install every update from 1.43 to 2.11?
If so where can i find the other updates
Besides feeling like a jacka$$....I think i shoulda left good enough alone :(

On the CF card that came with the mpc,it had xl 1.42 on it,
So i installed 1.42,and looks, feels just like 1.43...even fixed the contrast

But i still dont know why xl 2.11 didn't properly install

The 'tap tempo + power on --> os1' text is not shown in JJOSXL.

I'm not entirely sure what is causing these problems but I have a feeling that it may have something to do with the fact that the latest JJOSXL2 HAS to be installed from free v3.12 or the latest JJOS1.

So, to be sure that everything is done correctly follow these steps:

1. Install free JJ OS Ver3.12.
2. Install JJOSXL v2.12. After installing and before the first bootup hold down the ERASE key and then turn your mpc on. Only release the ERASE key after the OS has fully loaded.

Now hold the STOP button and scroll the data wheel to adjust the screen contrast.

What was the os on the MPC before os2xl 1.42?
Do you have the save function unlocked right now with 1.43 or 1.42 or the last update before os2xl 2.XX series?

The 1k is different from the 2K5. You don't have to pay for all the JJ OS at a time.

I'm speculating but if it's not a contrast problem, maybe you can't upgrade to the latest os2xl coz the guy who sold it to you didn't pay for the password.

Otherwise you got a strange problem.
Maybe corrupt os file?

Whenever my 1k boots up,it always displayed jj osxl 1.43....but on the bottom of the screen, there is the option to use os1 4.99, by using the tap tempo + power on.....I would just do nothing and it would default to os2xl1.43

I didn't know that i had to go backward and install the free jj os 3.12,I thought i could just go from 1.43 to 2.11,which was on the cf card that came with the 1k.

Once I saw 2.11 wasnt working,i used the tap tempo+power to get to os1 4.99,then i popped in the cf card which had a few different versions of jj.....there was no 1.43,but there was 1.42.....and thats where im at now.....and yeah....i can save my work so i figured the cat before me musta paid for the password/passwords

When you installed 2.12, after the boot process and the screen contrast change, did you see the pad bank A and the window button lightning?
