After buying my MPC 500 from Crack Convertors 3 years back, I love how nice it is to use an MPC and started to look for an upgrade. I got a 1000 last week as it was only £249.99 from the same Crack Convertor's. Fooking bargain til I can afford (and locate) a Japanese made 4000. That's my goal. So I load up a folder from the CF card and change the song. I go to save. This is where I am really confused. The OS is JJOS1 4.99 . It has an ID but I don't know the password. The good ol boy's down at Crack Con's couldn't help  and I have had a look through here as have seen loads of stuff on it, but I am a simpleton who just makes beats. Could someone please make some sense of this for me if they have the time please. Its bloody well over my head.

As far as I am aware, there will be and password give to the chap who installed it, but this 1000 was 2nd hand so asking him is out of the question.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, the password only needs to be input once. So whoever installed JJOS1, never actually paid for the serial. Once it's entered--its entered for good. In fact, it's entered so permanently that if you ever have to send your MPC off for repairs, you may risk having to buy JJOS1 again.

But believe me, its worth it.

Not to hijack your thread, but does anyone know exactly where the password is stored so I know what to try and salvage in case my MP breaks?

Nice one for that H3ndrix, boss. Nice and straight forward answer :) I was thinking if I have to buy it I may as well buy the JJOS 2 ?? If so should I just go through the process from scratch and if so which is the best feed to follow please??

Passwords are given to you when you purchase the OS. Go purchase the OS if need be. As I've read for years and years, it's worth it.

That's really subjective since it really depends on what you want to do with the MPC specifically. However, I can attest for JJOS2XL's features being well worth the money.

I would recommend though, if your MPC is second hand--double checking that it has the pad upgrade before investing in the OS. Just wiggle one of the buttons on like the bottom right and see if the adjacent pads wiggle with it (even just a little). If it does, you've got the newer pads and you shouldn't run into any issues with the pads dying out. If they don't wiggle, chances are you have the older pads which are prone to dying out after awhile, though they can be repaired--there's instructions stickied up top, the upgraded pads are still some people's favorite.

Look for an "N" in the units serial number as well. "MPC-1000BK-N..." "N" for new pads, but even some not labelled "N" will have them, what h3ndrix said is really easy to check on the pad wiggle.

If you can't save anyway you might as well try OS1, OS2 and OS2XL. Save disabled is the restriction whichever one is installed without a password being entered. When you buy OS2XL for the $123 you get all three OS's unlocked and can switch freely between them (this is explained in somewhat confusing due to translation paragraph on JJ's site.)

Personally I think even the upgraded pads still suck (small gap between sheet bottom and sensor sheet.) But the original ones (16 separate/not in a sheet) where far worse. You can apply silicone to the underside of the pads and that fixes it (search/google Nym+1000 pad+silicone) or MPCStuff sells Fat Pads that close the gap quite nicely. (After getting them my 1000 pads are as sensitive as my 2000XL  )

Cheers H3ndrix. Yeah man, the first thing I looked at in the shop was the pad movement and its the upgrade . I also took my 128 Ram out my 500 and stuck it in the 1000, no prob's. Am gonna pimp it with some thick pads as wanna do some live stuff too (and the black pads look fookin rooood).

Am sorry to bore people with this OS ish. I can imagine it tedious for those who go over it again and again. Many thanks for the point in the right direction. Will go purchase the JJOS 2 and see how I get on

Nice one fella's :)

Man you just sold me on getting some fat pads when they release the yellow ones any day now. I can feel that gap you are talking about, but since I know its there and what is causing the gap I just work around it.I know they sell those cork tabs to put under the pads too. But here's to looking at some fat pads :smoker:

Nice one Metatron72, looks like its OS"XL

I like the 500 pad's but maybe that's just nostalgia. I need more out of the machine and after near 3 1/2 solid years on the 500, its defo pad's for the rest of my life.

Still, the 4000 is the one I really want.

Cheers for the advice guys

It's dope actually with the 1000 ones as they molded those after the standard square ones. They decided to just mold the height of the potential cork into the pad sheet bottom itself. I figure someday from settling, evaporated adhesive and just humid to dry and back again my MPD32 will have all kinds of cork bits and dust floating inside...

But yeah if you feel the gap then you already know that $40 is well spent like you said. :)

Also the JJ OS's have deeper pad sensitivity settings too. (@King Street Blues)

And yeah every MPC lover should eventually get a 4000, hell I want a second one just so I'm set for the decade after this one :-) (BTW- JJ-XL has like 80-90% of the stuff in the 4000 perhaps implemented differently but mostly it's there)

I was offerred a 4000 at a Guitar Center for 600 bucks because it didn't have any samples on it so they felt like it was potentially 'broken.' Then those f's offered 200 bucks for my vdrums... which i then traded for a 1000 with the money to get buttons and pads replaced. (more than the 200 gc was offerring). Alas, i got no 4000 and it was sold the next day :-\

I'm seeing 4000's for $675-$800 and around $1000 or so with all the upgrade boards. Seemingly people must have dumped 4k's for Ren's looking at the timing. You will definitely find another one at a good price in the next 6 months to a year.
By King Street Blues Mon Jan 07, 2013 10:59 am
Such a good price for a 4k too. Some people really don't know what they are selling. The 1000 i have is mint. I checked all the pad's and went through what I knew. I think it's because there is no option to save as the OS hasn't been bought. The guy's in Cash Con's probs thought it was dud or something. I have had a few other thing's from them they didn't know about for a silly cheap price, but no a 4K for that price, damn :?

and Ren's are fine if you have like that sort of thing. I like a stand alone machine and I only use hardware, no computers other than uploading to soundcloud. I would swap a REN, SMP1200 and my first born for a 4000 maxed. They look the ONE!!
