Can JJ work in a screen saver?

I'm curious, would others on this forum be into a simple screensaver that would turn the screen off after so many minutes? Perhaps touching a pad or button would turn it back on?

I leave my studio on all day and I'm worried I'm going to kill the screen quick.

Interesting idea... I think it would depend on whether or not the MPC is wired to be able to shut off the screen while it is powered on... my guess would be that it is not possible to actually turn off just the backlight like that.


Also, if it were possible, then you would have the problem of having to decide when it actually should turn off, and when it should turn on, as in when you are tracking in song mode, you might actually want it to be able to stay on for the duration of the song, so you wouldn't want the screensaver to kick in... etc.

i'm guessing it could be tied into processor activity, much like a pc one is

btw you do realise this was on jahromes wishlist? he should be along any minute...

this would be cool, but didn't i read somewhere that these screens last a rediculously long time?

Yeah, pretty good idea but I definately want an on/off option for it.

but anyways.. as i work in photoshop and waste time on myspace..i look over and my mpc sits on the same screen for so long.. often overnight..

If your not using the MPC save then turn it off, SIMPLE!

The 1K's display is backlit by 3 LED's which draw approx. 3x 20mA.
LED's have a typical lifetime of at least 100,000 hours.

i did the math, thats at least 11.42 years.

I write music in short bursts over the coarse of a day. I'd love to be able to hit a button combination and have the screen go off.

ok, but for what reason when it doesn't affect your electricity bill or the lifetime of the 1k?

For your way of working it maybe more reasonable to put the MPC off
and save at least some juice and overall lifetime of other components that
are more prone to failure over time.

anyhow, I'm not too worried about these kind of things.
In 11.42 years we most likely produce with other equipment.

I leave my MPC on when I have to play shows... I have to soundcheck usually around 4 or 5 hours before playing, and I have to load nearly 100MB of samples for my set, so I leave it on after soundcheck until I'm done with the show. After almost 3 years, my MPC has gotten significantly darker on the side that has the power adapter, and gets darker the longer it's left on. I can still see everything, but the screen is obviously damaged because of the heat from the power source messing with the LED screen...

So I said all that to say that a screen saver would be great... it's not always practical to turn off your MPC and turn it back on right before doing a show when it takes nearly 3 minutes to load 100MB of samples (which is an unfortunate issue with JJ's OS... the akai OS loaded samples much faster)... and the MPC's screen will get damaged well before 11.42 years if you use it enough...
