this is a project i'm working on. just 8 bars, chopped sample and programmed drums

here i can help illustrate some of the stuff i've been talking about.

http://nymantics.com/VOICE.zip

pull this up, unzip it, and load it
must have jj os

used functions: range levels triggered via qlink, in depth use of grid edit in drum programming, use of Midi Roll grid edit for time shifting, alternate looping used on tiny oneshots, etc.

please post comments and questions if you have any

part one - enter midi grid edit on track 1, "VOICE"

note that basically the same notes are played every 4 bars, with the whole phrase looping at 8 bars. entire sequence is 16 bars. note that after 8, the vocal sample gets "louder."

now go into step edit and watch the LAYER values change.

i like doing this because i can see everything on 1 screen in grid edit/access all my sounds from pad bank A. no switching, no invisible notes on other pad banks when viewing grid.

part two - alternate looping

open the VOICE program and hit/hold any pad. the vocal gets looped. note that each pad is set to NOTE ON. note that in the sequence data, the notes' durations are specified. also notice the slight decay set to each sample.

this all helps to prevent gaps in the programmed vocal sequence.

and yes, i turned alternate loop on and then specified the loop point for all 64 some samples, one at a time

the song itself is just a starter but you'll see what i'm talking about when you open it up. i will post some of my other project folders up in a while too.

I haven't really messed around with layers and the qlink that much but I like it a lot after messing around on that voice program. That looped snare or roll ('cracklysnare' or something) sounds dope. Good beat.

that was the first sample i ever applied alternate loop to. love it immediately!

i'm not, man...i'm a real hermit. i most definitely play my beats when people ask, and of course edge city got around a bit but i don't pursue rappers on a daily basis/local scale. i'm not shy about them or anything, but i'm very...fatigued by voluntary social encounter. antisocial. i do have some plans to get at some folks in dc and get a little loud, but meanwhile i feel like i've got so much more to learn.

shoot mang
i'd love some cool cash for my beats and it'd certainly help keep me afloat. without being scrooge about it, it'd be glorious to make a living off these things

everyone, feel free to fool with the main sample - flip it into some of your own songs etc. practice with the drum pgm too

note the assigned pads in pad bank b of the drum program. those are all simulted. there's a little squeaky bleep on the snare (pad 10) and a heavier kick B01 simulted to A01 and 02.

hahahha
makin me chuckle
as is the current trend, i'm downing a 40 of hurricane right now, so i'll respond in character

as an unassuming white kid who has only 2 friends who i see daily (1 roommate and 1 girlfriend) i am a very cloistered individual. my antisocial tendencies prevent me from doing much more than working. so i work, as much as i can. waiting tables is somewhat of a blessing, since it's making me MUCH better at just talking to random people.

so i work, a lot. today i worked from 9 in the morning til 11:30 pm. i need the scratch.

almost every other moment i spend on this mpc, working on existing songs or new songs. nuff said. simple practice, exploration and trial/error, trying what i read about and blindly groping at new tricks.

this leaves so little time for me to gather the courage to market myself as a product. again, i'm not shy so much as i get straight fatigued by personal encounter. long story short, i need a full time manager who arranges all my stuff for me!!!!

conversely, i love getting calls from folks about the mpc. lithion and hereo both called me recently and i basically talked their ears off. i really had a good time gabbin with them about things to do and things to try. i love hearing about what they're doing, and i feel like i gain a lot from the encounter.

and all that.
i'm almost done with this 40 so i'm becoming less intelligible...which means it's time to move on to other threads/topics

it had nothing to do with your name

rich_biatch wrote:music should be heard, yeah? so you spend time doing things aimlessly? i think not. do you have a problem with money? get over it. money is not a bad thing if you do something to deserve it. money can bring life if used right.

thanks for the totally superfluous life lesson

rich_biatch wrote:if my beat could be heard behind nas or krs-one or eric b, do you think i would try to put it in their hands? hopefully they would hear it and say 'i want that beat'... but you know what im sayin.

not entirely, seeing as eric b was the dj. i think you mean Rakim

rich_biatch wrote:and hey i was only giving props. you dont approve? man that sorta sucks. ill be sure not to give you props, ok?

ok

rich_biatch wrote:so nym, whats the bandwidth usage on that file youre givin away?

i know a guy who has a soundclick page, and whos beats sorta suck to be real honest. he sells them! hes got a couple 'better' ones that went for a few hundy... you might just try it. but then he is a brotha and im sure hes got a hookup somewhere. you know brothas. nepotism an all dat shiatt... but what about the neptunes? arent they gringos? i mean, it does make a diff doesnt it?

um pharrell is black, chad is asian, and the third dude in neptunes is black as pharrell. none are gringos.
