Thanks to all of you. In particular massive thanks to Angel who patiently explained this to me more than once.
Guaranteed,its changed the way I will use my mpc 1000. and it is easily as good as using Ableton. Magic !

Would be cool if this were a regular feature, not just a bug.

I got a SP 404 and it has a "Hold" button that does the same effect (press it and the sample is repeated forever), maybe JJ can make something like this with the Numeric-Button?

you can do this on a Roland JS 30 too, it's very easy and they go for like $40 or something like that...

well it looks like if you have a 2500 there isnt !!

I think this being an undocumented bug is why you see a lot of people who want to play 'loops' on the MPC keep triggering them continuously through the set.

As an aside, is there any reason why nobody is using the sequencer in loop mode to play the drums and just have them retrigger? If you're not sequencing anything seems like a reasonable way to get 'looping' going.

I haven't played much with the pedals, but can you set a pedal to a "hold" mode perhaps? If not, maybe JJ could add that and not overload any more buttons

All of the MPC's can do this. Even the 500.

Eimer - in which case could you kindly let me know how I'd do it on a 2500. I've got it working on a 1000 and 500 however both boxes have a 'NUMERIC' button which is used to get this working.
The 2500 has no such button.

Actually, I really do like to sequence this way. I love finding the right tempo of a loop. It's just cool to learn something new. Especially something that I've always wondered about. It could also come in really handy looping on the fly. I can definately find a loop much faster in trim mode than with the sequencer...

great find! this is pretty sweet.

it's nice how you can also layer loops by pressing the NUMERIC button again [so that the light is off] and then repeat the technique with a different pad [which is setup the same way]. this really is just like the HOLD button that the SP series have. and if you go back to holding the pad while pressing NUMERIC the 2nd time [to turn it off], it will switch you back to NOTE ON mode so that it keeps playing until you let go of the pad. again, awesome find.
