i do keep everything set to the stereo outs as i build a track up. but when its time to mix it, i record each individual track to the daw. i do run the sounds out 1 & 2, and 3 & 4, and L & R. but when you set pad a1 of xyz program to L and pad a2 of xyz program to R, and go to track it, everything that is not set to 1,2,3, or 4 will play through L & R (the stereo outputs). so you have to go to every program that is being used and go to gpe, hit whole, hit out, scroll to level and turn the jogwheel to 0. if L & R deactivated ST, it would happen automatically. try it and you will see.

okay i see what you mean.. if you have to mute sounds going through ST while using the stereo left and right as their own individual tracks then I assume it means you have more stuff to track than will fit in a single pass using all 6 outs? so you do multiple plays of your sequence and line them up in the computer?

i asked if jj could implement some code or whatever that when you set a pad/program to l or r or lr it could automatically mute all pads set to st instead of having to go to all other tracks and mute the pads that you dont want to record out of the stereo outs. that does not happen.
the post was only 5 lines man. reread it.
peace

and i sequence the whole song in song mode, so i would basically do kick, snare, closed hat, open hat, ride, bassline, the whole song in one take. then record the main sample, stabs, reverses, synthlines, whatever on the next take.

Since you put your sounds each on their own track the track mixer would make more sense and continue to simply use the track mute screen to mute tracks not in use.
Akai should have implemented the track mixer the minute they dropped the 2000xl on the market since you can use multiple programs simultaneously. Ensoniq has a mixer based on the sequence tracks that works very well also. I use it all the time with my eps16+.
But yea, I'd say
-acquire an OS that uses the track mixer
-send tracks to outputs and mute those not needed as opposed to going in and muting individual pads (hella annoying)
-keep using midi sync and making passes
I only say this 'cause I doubt JJ is gonna do anything about it.

This is exactly what I do when building a track as well, and then I track it all separately in a DAW to get a great mix.
FYI, how did you slave your MPC? I am guessing MIDI, and turning some slave function on. This is probably something that is obvious if I was on my MPC and looked, but I am not right now. LOL.
