if u want to keep the .bin file for archive, thats what i do, but it depends how much space u have on the cf, i dont have a HD in my mpc, so i dump it all to the mac, and keep only the latest of each (JJOS1, OS2, XL) on the cf.

but sounds like you're ok, now u have the update sorted,

enjoy.

I still ONLY use OS1. The other OS don't interest me too much. I don't like the work flow at all. Each OS has a certain direction that it's going in that appeals to certain kinds of beatmakers and appeals to the feature sets that they need, while leaving other features underdeveloped or in a state where they work in an odd manner, and it's out of necessity because of space issues.

I for one don't feel like loading up different OS to take advantage of certain features that are in one but not in the others, or certain features that are implemented better in one. It would be easier to do this if all the files worked in all the OS, but they don't. If you make a beat in one OS it has to stay in that OS. Unless you want to take the wav files and rebuild the beat in a couple different OS.

If I need features that OS1 doesn't have, which I rarely do, I'd rather leave it up to doing it in the computer anyways.

Well I finally decided to take the plunge. I got my OS2XL password within 10 minutes and I'm ready to learn everything. There's alot for me to catch up on, since I haven't been around until recently. So far, I really like the new changes to the layout and how quickly accessible things are. For $15, I'm more than happy. :D

Let me know how it goes, cause I didn't like OS2 even after learning it. It's going to take something extraordinary to make me want to learn another OS again.

funny. cos i was suspicious of porting from OS 1 to os2 simply for the loss of a second filter and a 4th layer, but since i realized i rarely use the 4th layer, and lets face it poliphony kills the mpc with extra layers anyhow....and the second filter is still a sore point, but the qlink and the mixers and the gpe all make for a better OS1 in OS2!

the workflow has been a tremendous jolt in the right direction, and oddly i feel like im still in OS1, that may seem strange, but i find it odd now that u dont like OS2 in favour of OS1 cos i feel that now XL is out, OS2 is just an expanded OS1 in the OS1'ish directions, and XL is the wierdo now! : )

Arbee could you be more specific about this statement, what exactly about the qlink, mixers, gpe?

in a way, i feel in retrospect that i'm STILL using OS1, because its hardly visually removed - like XL is somewhat, so in that there's hardly any extra learning to do, assuming we all know how to set up nice envelopes in an adsr.

differences wise, true, that the main screen's new note grid is there and new, so its new, and , like, there, but that said, i use it all the time to alter my beats, or notation on the go. so it shouldnt take more that a few runs to get to grips with the visual changes.

therefore, the GlobalProgramEditor is very similair, and ALL the qlinks still work well. so if u cant see a port over to OS2 from OS1, i was being positive that theres not much of a loss - more of a gain.

i first thought i was losing a lot and gaining little when JJ removed the 4th layer/2nd filter. there arent two program editors now, its all rolled into one, giving space for the 'pat' feature, for jamming rhythm loops in and saving them.
there's the new track mixer's there and works well.

the biggest loss from OS1 for me was all the velocity stuff, Vel>SStart etc. i used to rinse it, but now there's really good NDC, and qlinks to ndc is a worthy alternative to vel>sstart.
