How to pitch

the best way to change the pitch of oneshots in the MPC is to utilize 2 functions: the looping function and the TUNE function in pgm mode.
this way you can still control how long your oneshot plays for while still changing the tune of your sample.
mpc timestretch = desperation.

Wasn't there some discussion several months ago about the time stretch/ pitch shift presets all sounding exactly the same? Shits broke like a bad joke.

It's about time stretch, not pitch shift...but still. Seems like pitch shift may not be any different.

i think some of you are confusing "pitching up" with time streching or pitch shifting (changing the length of a sample without altering the pitch and changing the pitch without adjust ing the length of a sample, respectively).

pitching up or down on your turntable is equivilant to changing the "tune" setting for a sample in program mode. just simply slows down or speeds up a sample.

time stretch/pitch shifting should really only be used if you're trying to change within about 5% or less

noticed same shizz. if you dont liek way it sounds, easiest to just use something else. personally dont mind sound of mpc timestretch. obviously depends on sample, not everything sound good timestretched regardless of where you do it. just part of the mpc sound i guess.

sometimes you can hear it in some producrs beats, part of thier grimey sound. madlib usin the sp303 timesretch, heard it in a few of his beats. aint bad, part of the grime. of course, depends on beat and sounds.

and the average listener isnt like "oh shit he used timestretch" they just think its part of the sound.

pitch shifting and time stretching on the mpc sucks...
