Nym i recon you just got used to this but if it was improved and maybe even some of the clutter in it removed you would like it even more, i know i would use it more.

For example the first level functions (with no shift ) should be purely for editing like copy move paste insert etc (I think step edits UI accomplished this quite well )

Why is program, on the first level and mute and solo and qlink, its like he tried to incorporate a full work environment in GRID, and letting it take preference over EDITING which i think should be first.

Second level functions (SHIFT KEY)

1 we have F3 - F5 empty ?
2 loop on only appears when using 6 pad layout , (ok this is probably more of a bug but i really don't see a need for loop on/off in GRID anyway)
we have that on the main screen again its like a environment within a environment, GRID EDIT would be way more fun if it did what it is meant to do properly first which is EDITING then some bells and whistles as a addition if there is room but even still i would rather be forced to change a program from the main screen than have the option in GRID , just my 2 cents.

Antonym wrote:here is my grid edit bug that i've noticed since 3.0X and just learned to live with

1 - load project with a detailed track in 1 seq
2 - from the start of the track, highlight using the TAP TEMPO and SCROLL RIGHT to the END of the track
3 - realize that you didn't want to go ALL THE WAY to the END and SCROLL BACK TO THE LEFT
4 - NOTE: the selected area doesn't appear to change for the first couple turns
5 - BUG: displayed selected area does not correspond with ACTUAL selected area (detectable by copying/pasting)

this would best be demonstrated in visual form but does anyone else know what i'm talking about here?

this is, after spending the last 11 months in the evolving jj grid edit, the only problem with the current grid edit i see.

sounds like it is the same bug that i sent it to JJ last week and that he fixed in 4.66 :)

anybody noticed and reported the glitches with overdub on/off ?

it does not react exactly same as in step edit or realtime recording. for instance sometimes need to press stop to stop overdub.

2. [GRID]
TAP TEMPO + Data wheel turn to right.
Two or more bras are chosen.
TAP TEMPO + Data wheel turn to left.
  Cursor is not displayed correctly.

truvc is that the one?
i haven't used the mpc for much but sampling (no grid editing) since .66 so if that one's taken care of, wonderful.

cyklops everything you just said sounds good. certain params don't need to be in grid when basic editing stuff would be better accessed on the first level. however, as you also said, i'm just so damn used to it that it's not even a 2nd thought.

this is what would be good:

1 - create a screenshot of 3 screens: 16pad grid edit on OVERDUB, on SHIFT, on TAP TEMPO, and the 1st level params (no overdub, no shift, no tap tempo).

create in MS PAINT a blank canvas that's larger than the actual screenshot. across the top of each image, write "ORIGINAL." save these all separate, so you have a couple different jpg files.

now, open them up again and rearrange F keys from each image as you see fit. when you are done, write "CHANGED" at the top.

then post them up for review.
this would be the most cohesive way of 1, getting feedback from us, and 2, communicating with jj.

everyone, DO NOT send varied and conflicting requests to jj about 16 pad grid edit. let's wait til we all see what could be better AND what appears to be impossible.
