remember that bit convert and ring mod both were inserted into the os when it was about 894 kb. that's a lot of power in just a couple kb of space...

EZ on that Nym, old program mode is an old habit for me, I've been using MPCs for ten years. For me it's a basic feature of all MPC's that I wouldnt' want to see go away. I know GPE is great, but still good to have the standard way.

Guys, I know old habits die hard, but I don't want you to think that there isn't a lot to gain by just learnin', not even learnin' really, more like remembering to use GPE.
Remember that you had to learn to use OPM in the first place. How beneficial was it to learn that. Now that it had been bettered, imagine how much more beneficial it would be to learn the new 1.
I first looked @ GPE and said "I'll never use this, I like OPM,.." Now, OPM doesn't even look right because GPE is setup the way I think OPM should be. There's sooo much to gain and save (like time) from usin' GPE guys. Seriously.

What MPC were you usin'? Cause everytime a new model came out there was usually a new OS with new changes to the most basic/standard features. And the 1000 hasn't been out for ten years, so you must've had to learn to adapt to the changes in the 1k OS. I haven't been on the 4k too much, but the 2000XL program mode looks quite different from the 1k OS OPM.

PREFACE: all of this is 100% at the control of the programmer. it really doesn't matter what we want, whatever we want. it is the programmer's os, and he will do what he wants with it. and it will be good, because it HAS been good. it will CONTINUE to be good, whatever the programmer decides.

of course not. remember this screen?

Image

this is in global program edit.
this is what you'd get when you hit mode+pad 07
exact same screen as before.

dahkter: i feel you on "the comfortable way i'm used to"
but 2 points: 1, the standard way is unfortunately a redundant code-hog.
2, we've installed an OS which is VASTLY DIFFERENT from the original.

different slider screen, different main screen, completely different chop, different grid mode (than the 2500), 2 ways of viewing the additional midi roll feature, additional program builder, additional TRIM functions...the list goes on. why suddenly the line in the sand?

you, and i, and everyone else completely went out of their comfort zone when they installed the New OS and began learning the new functions.

there is no function "going away." it's not as if it would involve losing our filters, or any other function function.

the screen above could be what you see on MODE+PAD07. the rest - in OPM you have single pad filter, single pad mute, and then the NOTE screen.

EACH of the above screen has its own screen in GPE.
EACH of the above screen is more controllable in GPE.

maybe tonight i will take a screenshot of each for an official visual comparison

i could continue to repeat endless comparisons: scissors to riding lawnmower. outdoor shack to house with indoor plumbing...

it takes MINUTES to learn, and an hour or two before it's muscle memory.

i really agree with dahkter. most of all i d'on't think that it's in JJ policy to loose the prvious akai os's function. ok we can access the same functions with the gpm...but...it's the way it's used to be...and if JJ wants new switchers to his OS, he needs to keep the sentence "you'll only have new function, no loss from the original"

if you want further enhancements, you should better ask to remove the splash screen (i know there s a thread about it) and/or the real time pitch shift (audio in mode)(i made a thread about it, but it's been locked...) which can not work while a sequence is playing and i don't think there's alot of people that use it.

i voted to remove the opm cuz' personnaly it won't change my workflow a lot...but i don't think JJ will remove this one...

its a new program mode. Almost everytime a new MPC comes out the OS changes a lil. Same controls (maybe more) and a better way to use them. Its not like we're tryin' to throw away the way we control our programs. A better way has been found and now we can do things faster and better. Almost everything you do in OPM you can do in GPE and and more. And the things you can t do would be added. To me it seems like you guys aren't willing to learn it.
Anyone who had a 2000 and then went and copped a 2500 had to learn some new stuff because the 2000 and the 2500 OSs aren't exactly the same. But, with the new OS they get better control over some of their favorite features and tons more. Just because the program mode didn't look the same @ first glance doesn't mean that its worse than the old 1 or harder to use, it just means that they have to learn what's new with this new program mode and then take full advantage of what this new and improved PM has to offer. They lost no controls of the program, PM just got a facelift and some great improvements.
Please tell me why you guys don't like GPE? 1 or 2 extra button pushes? Appearance? I can't understand. Have you guys really given it a try? A solid try like "I'm gonna use it all this week and explore the new features it has," or take a look and said "nope, not for me". Treat it like its the only Pro Mo and see how it works for you. Just because you didn't have a choice when you first got the MP doesn't mean that the OPM is the best. Out with old and in with the new.
Watch, new MPs gonna come out and things are gonna be different and the features are gonna be bangin'! Will you make the switch for great advances @ the price of letting go of some of your familiarity? A lot of gain can come from a lil sacrifice.

for the people who are against GPE, i don't understand what the problem is. GPE is self explanitory, easier, and more comprehensive than OPM. and like hereo said, its not like we are loosing pgm mode, it just looks different.
