flunki, looking at what you wrote there is only 832k for the OS space. Which is probably plenty for whatever source code is used. I bet it's some type of assembly code... Must find out what processor is used in the MPC. Does anyone know?

Where did you get the internal flash memory map?

This bit looks like an extra meg to me :

1500K |

Internal sequence area. <=== It is not used here in JJ OS.
| New JJ OS is put in here.

---------------------------2500K

And this was grabbed from the 1k forum ...

nym knows more.. :)

would you buy another 2500 or even - gasp - a 1000 with the new pads? what are you working on insteaD?

Well I have lots of other pieces but I use a 4k and 8800 so they serve the MPC niche.
I'm pretty much done with the MPC future products until they have a proven product.
So even if something looks promising I will wait on it since I have other options.

No one can say this guy isn't working hard for his Money. I absolutely hated my 2500 with the akai os. I will never gripe about spending another $39 for a slew of new operating systems. Bugs or no bugs, its a small price to pay. Linns MPC-60 upgrade and the new MPC3000 OS cost 4 times as much.

We'll have to pay an other 39$ ??

FROM JJ SITE

Notes
1. ....
2. ....
3. The filter 2 was deleted.
4. ....
5. There is not 4 of a layer.

Please JJ, don't!!
2 filters are quite confortable to use alone/together, as well as 4 sample layers..
Curious JJ's havin' 1500 kB more and is still removing features..

controversy will become delight. remember simult, remember resampling, and look forward to adsr.

Sure :-)
I don't like much resampling (quality is not preserved and sometimes could be painfull) and ADSR would be interesting, but never tought of it in my workflow: I'm pretty sure I gonna buy that os2, but why anyway remove features when you have one and a half megs to write more code in?

maybe to preserve processor capability? can't handle so much per pad stuff going on? adsr replaces 4th layer, 2nd filter? maybe velocity ranges+4th layer+ADSR was too much for the processor to handle at 1 time. i dunno.

resampling quality - i thought the same about quality not being preserved, but it turns out that's not true. tests done in the 1000 forum show that resampled files have the same quality, just are not normalized. resampling is rather a pain though, i don't love doing it.

my main qualm was something you didn't mention, the loss of velocity layers. that was hugely important to my old workflow, download my drum programs to see just how big a part of my workflow it was. my immediate reaction was displeasure but i'm over that now cuz i've got better ideas to take advantage of the new/existing features to create better drum programs.

resampling usually has a not really noticable effect. Atleast to the listener.

I read the 1000 forum too about os2, it sounds very interesting, especially for that keygroup and Aftertouch thing. I also appreciate the other features (ADSR!) of course except the loss of a filter.
Now one question: Does this mean that we could have some compatibilty with other akai soundbanks or multisamples, soundfonts or whatever? I dont think so but it would be great, really.
One more: I never switched to first JJ os (just tried) but i could do now, both upgrades, but will i still be able to open correctly all of my projects done with AKAI os? Your experiences?

peace

Keygroups. :] this shows JJ actually listens to requests if there do-able
