he said this:

MPC has memorized the entered password.
It is not lost even if it rewrites OS.
For example, it is not lost even if it returns to OS of AKAI.

Example.
JJ OS2XL Ver2.xx =>JJ OS1 Ver4.9x (A password is unnecessary.)
JJ OS2XL Ver2.xx =>AKAI OS Ver2.13 =>JJ OS1 Ver4.9x =>JJ OS2XL Ver2.xx (A password is not lost.)
JJ OS2XL Ver2.xx =>JJ OS Ver3.12 =>JJ OS1 Ver4.9x =>JJ OS2XL Ver2.xx (A password is not lost.)
JJ OS2XL Ver2.xx =>JJ OS2 Ver1.3x (A password is unnecessary.)
JJ OS2XL Ver2.xx =>JJ OS2 Ver1.3x =>JJ OS2XL Ver2.xx (A password is not lost.)
JJ OS2XL Ver2.xx =>JJ OS2XL Ver3.xx (A password is unnecessary.)
JJ OS2XL Ver3.xx =>JJ OS2XL Ver3.xx (A password is unnecessary.)

Therefore, update is no charge.
If you purchase a password by OS2XL Ver2.27 now, it is not necessary to purchase a password further by OS2XL Ver3.00.

Thank you.

You can put me down for twenty bucks! That's nothing compared to what he has invested in time and ingenuity.

I was actually thinking about that too when I read the reply he sent to "b00m" about it being free update for those that already paid for os2xl. I know we've all already paid over $100 for all the os versions so it's not at all like it's really a "free" update but JJ has always listened to our suggestions, continues to support the os and always returns emails, etc. so I feel kinda bad not giving him something; no matter how much you'd be willing to pay you'd never get that kind of service from Akai or any of the bigger companies.

That really surprises me. What makes him keep this up? Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful as hell... I just don't see what keeps him coming back. I'd be happy to pay for this.

I think if he charged, he'd get more complainers and "non converts", than folks who appreciate and willing to hand out dough.

I dunno, obiviously dont know the numbers of mpc sold, jjos sold, level of interested, etc. but just cause we are all excited, there are a slew of folks who still too broke or willing to fork over for os2xl. If you increase the price and still only offer 1 free os and 1 paid or create a 3rd upgrade option, youre gonna piss people off or confuse them............atleast thats what im thinking ??

btw. im not one of those folks. id be glad to donate. :)

^ that's a very good analysis of the situation. we'll create a donate thread when os2xl 3 is released.

I had an MPC a few years back then sold it and moved on to software. After a while I missed the MPC but kind of ignored it for a few years and kept working and forgot about it. Then I heard about JJ OS 3. I had the first one and loved it and now to come back and find this is AWESOME.

Basically I just bought myself another MPC. Because of the maturity of the OS now. I got a lot of to go through and learn with all these new features! I even work for a music software company but I'm still loving the MPC again! Can't wait for October now!

Anything I should focus on with JJ OS 2 as I'm learning the new features?

only thing I'm worried about is this:
A pattern is not played back except the mode about a main screen and a pattern.

Hopefully it doesn't revert to normal track playback if you switch tracks or go into the mute screen (like with pad mute turning off when you leave that screen). But actually reading that again I think he just means the pads will work normally on the other screens.

Anyway, super psyched to try this... sounds like serious Ableton competition no matter how it works!
