quick question for those of you who have been testing steady ( and believe me, alot of us thank you sincerely ). i haven't been to the boards for awhile, so please excuse my ignornace on this just this once. have the direct record features been fixed now with the most current 3.03 OS? i had installed beta 14 awhile back, messed with it a bit and jumped back over to 2.01 so i could finish projects i was working on in the studio and didnt want a buggy system when we were paying money, lol.... so i havent been following the bug fixes with the all the constant upgrades. i picked up alot of the issues that have been smoothed out, but didnt find anytthing on that regarding the timing being correct and all. thanks in advance for the info. this new OS is a monster.

peace and blessings.

Afex: direct record-samples have still extra silence in start, also some other bugs has been discovered (check OS version 3 bugs-topic).
This OS is stable, I haven't suffered freezes.

BTW I found reeeeally nice feature today, I don't know does this exist on OS 2.1 or older ones (yep, im new mpc owner):
In Chop you can change regions by holding Tap tempo and turning Data wheel. It was horrible to move to regions, then move to start, then end, then regions, then start then end and so on, this is really great.

The new OS really needs some documentation to show all this "hidden" features.

GREAT NEWS. Just heard from JJ's representative from the MPC1000 site. MTC & MMC will be added to the new OS which will be for sale!!!

Also, they have a question about a bug which has been reported related to the direct recording function. Some people (or person) has reported that there is blank space left at the beginning of the directly recorded sound. Could someone please let me know how much space there is in seconds so I can report back to them.

Thanks!

good.

mtc will be great.

NOW

here's something else that needs to be done.
in RECORD mode there is a problem i often have due to my current setup that i imagine many others experience as well. i know there are ways around it by simply swapping some cables around but at this moment that's not an option.

my problem is this - i do all my sampling via spdif - even vinyl. my mixer sends signals to my delta, which turns it around and sends it out the spdif to my mpc.

problem is, with MONITER ON, the MPC is sending back exactly what it hears, creating a metallicky phase.

a similar thing would happen if you were trying to sample from the main outs of a mixer while the mpc was patched into one of the stereo bays. feedback loop.

"MONITOR ON" can be turned off - but each time i turn on my mpc, i need to change it to OFF. i also need to set my default recording time to well past 10 seconds just to have the room.

i think both MONITOR ON and SAMPLING TIME need to have the DEFAULT option that JJ has implemented into other functions. they are very handy, and small things like this seem to be JJ's specialty when it comes to making a really good os.

while these tips aren't bugs, they are workflow processes that we should mention - SMALL little issues we have had with the akai os that we'd like smoothed over, you get it?

Mura, i will mention this to the JJ in a bug report, as i did with mtc
but could you do your best to translate this to him if you understand what i'm saying? if not, mention it here, as i don't check pms or really even post here anymore.

i will continue to read/post in the new OS threads until the new os is done being developed. hopefully by then i will be in personal contact with JJ so i can continue to give little suggestions par above

peace

i failed to reflect how excited i am about mtc.

i will be using acid as a sound module for phrase samples that are not natured to the mpc - that is, they're tricky to chop or unnecessary to chop

example - a very loosely timed break
example - record static sidechained to drums
example - other soundscaping
example - loosely timed percussion
example - acapellas and other vocals

basically, take the idea of the direct record function and put it onto a visual multisequencing DAW like acid, with really good Direct X effects and you have what using Acid as a sound module promises you - VERY good for groove, filling in gaps, adding in special stuff. even MORE control.

after we get mtc i will only be using my mpc for sequencing oneshot samples - files which contain only one note. this mostly will mean lead melody, bass, reason midi, and of course, drums.

acid will take any and everything else.

not to mention, mtc will make it a HELL of a lot easier to track out.

I agree. In my opinion JJ should add changeable defaults to Treshold, Mode, Time and Monitor, well why not also for Input.
So, if some one contacts to JJ, please mention about need of Default-option for all values of Record.

the more little stuff like that the better

streamlining the os

****** in grid edit

jj should make the notes display duration. at this point, every entry is just a black square.

what if...for notes that last like 96 ticks of w/e...there's a solid black line? ie, the note displayed is as long as its duration to whatever resolution (time correct) grid you're currently in?

this would be good for a more visual view of note on pads.

That would be cool, just like what Cubase's drum editor does. But if it don't happen with the 1k, I'm still cool with it, since I'm also used to using old Roland drum machines which are limited in the same way. 8)

aye its no biggie, the simple dots in grid are good enough imo, takes me back to my tr626...

mura - without wishing to derail this, if you are speaking to dude again can you find out if the plani is for jj to bring ALL the 2500 featureset to the 1000?

i think right now all that hasnt ben confirmed is autochromatic and chopshop? anything else the 2500 does in software that the 1k could theoretically do?

thx
