NEW TO THE 1G

i just copped a black mpc 1G, 128 mb upgraded, jj os 4.87 (or 4.78. im drunk and cant remember). i was gonna get the 2500 but i figured that they did the same sh!t so why not save damn near $1000. the real story is some bum fux broke into my crib and cleaned me out and took my xl that ive used for years, but i figured why go back to that? why not upgrade? i did my homework and figure'd id have more to gain by getting the 1G instead of going back to the xl. the xl always and forever will be a beast (salute !!!). i aint missing much except for the fact that i have HUNDREDS of beats on floppy, and maaaad drums on floppy. how do i transfer those beats to 1g format (or whatever) and save them on the cards? i also want to get the hard drive installed which is the thing that turned me on the most about it. any help would be appreciated. im not some a$$hole that wants somebody to walk me thru this, im just new to the 1g.

hard drive is cake. just order the hdm10 from vstservice.com. cop a decent size hdd. it has to be 2.5" ide laptop drive. mine is a 30gb travelstar drive and its perfect for my storage needs. i came from an xl too that had a 9gb drive in it and 30 is fine for me. remove 3screws that hold on the front trim plate (2 on the bottom and 1 in the front.) and slide in the hard disk, mounted to the adaptor from vst of course. replace the face plate format the drive and your good.

damn u had a hd IN your xl?

you can get a drive with about 120 - 130gb in there max, anything over that you won't be able to use anyways, so don't bother unless you can get a good deal or can't find smaller.

yea it was easy to put a hdd in the xl. easier if you dont have the 8out card. i have an adaptor that changes 50 pin scsi into 80pin scsi.

I bet that cable cost a few... I remember needing to get some special scsi cables and they were serious money.

i'd say you'll need to find a pc with a floppy drive and copy all your discs to the pc and then copy them over to the mpc via usb cable.

i've been thinking of getting a hard drive - but i'm not anywhere near filling up my 2gig card yet, despite a plethora of overly long untrimmed samples.

here comes the part where i strip away some hope. unless you saved all your beats as midi and not seq. it will do you no good to transfer them to your new mpc. the 1000 will only play midi files saved on the 2000. not the seq files. you would have to load them onto a 2000 and resave them as midi. i painstakingly did this with all my beats before i sold my xl because i new i was purchasing a 4000. and its the same with that one. i actually have a 1000 temporarily while i find a 4000 at a reasonable cost. and all of my beats are on a scsi hdd. so im just flipping new beats until i get the 4g.

get a 40gig hard disk or so - it's useful if you have stacks of sounds on a pc, drag and drop via usb.

i got a 1K - the hard disk and ram are easy to fit, takes 10 mins.

if anyone is looking for old scsi stuff check "scsi for samplers" - they do most things a old school sampler geek needs.
