MTC & Logic Sync.....?

i know this is going to have been covered so apologies, i did a search and couldnt find anything, i checked the on line manual and i read the 'beatmaking on the MPC1000 (jjos 3.08)' but couldnt find anything so here goes:

can you sync using MTC (midi time code) on any of the jjos's?

cant get it to sync to logic, i asked around other forums and no'one knows, been trying to record a 2 bar loop into logic and the picture below is what i get if i put it in cycle record, its clearly out of time but both tempos are set manually the same?

No I don't have logic but this is what I would do IF I had logic.

Place empty 1 or 2 bars in front of the whole seq/song so that timing has a chance to get locked before audio actually starts.

From the pic it looks like you are starting the mpc audio and recording at the same time right out the gate and expecting timing to be perfect, which is not always the case, hence it drives people crazy sometimes.

Add that empty 1 or 2 bars so timing has a chance to lock before sequencing gets going.

thanks man, i have logic set to master and the MPC to slave (i even disconnected the out midi cable from the mpc so it MUST be getting its timing from logic), and i tried leaving a few bars in front but it still dont work. in addition, if i just punch in/out of logic and record just a 2 bar sequence, the audio occurs too early (negative latency??!!!) so the initial transient of the first hit is cut off (and the initial transient of the first hit of the following bar is at the end).

Thanks man, done some searching on the internet seems im not the only one having problems syncing to logic (or pro tools for that matter), they should let you know that sync doesnt work with one of the worlds most popular sequencers.

i found the following instructions but they use MTC and MMC but the 1000 only has midi clock?:

This is how to set up so the MPC is the master, keeping it's timing and groove.

Be sure to monitor the mpc audio with direct monitoring (available on most I/O devices), v. important, if you don't, you'll have alot more hassle with latency, meaning you'd have to go and fiddle with MTC delay settings in Preferences/Midi/Sync (which is actually quite easy.

Logic Settings:

In - File / Song Settings / Synchronisation / Midi

Make sure Midi Clock is not set to transmit (uncheck box if needed)
Make sure Transmit MTC is unchecked
Make sure Transmit MMC is checked
Make sure Listen to MMC input is unchecked

In - File / Song Settings / Synchronisation / General

Sync Mode = "MTC" (also check the Auto Enable MTC box)
Set frame rate to "25 FPS"
Set Validate MTC to "always"
set 'Bar Position' to "1 1 1 1",
set 'Plays at SMPTE' to "0 : 0 : 0 : 0" (VERY important)

ALL the above settings are song settings so you would have to save the Logic song as a template if you want these settings to be in effect every time you start a new song, otherwise would have to be done manually every time.


MPC settings:

In sync page (MODE+9 - F2)

Sync In = Slave
Mode:OFF
Recieve MMC: ON (This means Logic transport [play, stop etc] will trigger the MPC)

Sync Out = Master
Mode: MIDI TIME CODE
Frame Rate: 25
Send MMC: OFF

the 'beatmaking on the mpc1000' book doesnt mention anything about MTC or MMC, i followed the instructions in that and it still dont work.

cant actually believe the mpc1000 dont work with logic and no'one knows about it!!!!!!!!! should be common knowledge.

have you tried jj os v1/v2 yet? You can download and play for free, you just won't be able to save.

no ive not tried any of those operating systems, are you saying jjos v1/v2 incorporates MTC/MMC?

MTC ON JJ OS DOES NOT WORK

i've connected with various DAW's

it doesn't work

go back to DAW as the master, mpc as the slave and midi time code and it will all line up the right way

dont know why folks around here been deleting / moving my threads, but if they're trying to piss me off, its working.

that picture above is taken from when it was set up as you say and it doesnt work (clearly), have you done this sucessfully in logic?
