Have you guys figured out a way to make synth programs that feature portamento synth patches with JJOS1? It probably isn't possible but figured i'd ask.
Also, quick question: what is the difference between an instrument program and regular program?

Thanks

portamento is just in os2, i'm 99.9% sure. also, important to note: portamento ONLY works on a single keygroup range - portamento will not work from sample to sample.

inst pgms are os2 keygroup programs. you don't assign samples to pads- rather you assign them to a range of notes.

regular programs are "drum" programs or sliced sample programs. samples are assigned to pads, not to note ranges.

Cool, thanks a lot I suspected it was an OS2 thing. I haven't made the switch to OS2 because the whole OS looks completely different and I've been using the regular OS for so many years...it would **** me up in my live show

wassup, all

i hear you that portamento is only on OS2. i'm rocking a 1000 with OS1 for some time now and am comfortable enough not to change for the time being.

one thing that still catching me out is that portamento (speed, at least) is listed as one of the things you can set the sliders to change under the midi option (as opposed to relatime or note on). wouldn't this suggest that my mpc can send portamento information to my external synth, even if it can't apply it to internal samples? i'm running midi from my empee into a boss dr330 which is cool but am blind to controlling it because the screen doesn't working. by the way i haven't yet managed to make any portamento style noises (that's the sliding between notes, right?) out of the synth module, though.

what do you reckon? excuses for resurrecting the longtime dead post, but better that than make a new one i suppose
peace al

to answer my own question for those interested. even though the manuals specifically contradict this - apparently yes an mpc 1000 runnning JJOS 1 (4.99) can send portamento information to an external synth. i did this by setting the sliders to midi, and the options to port time, port pedal, and port control. I can't remeber the numbers of these (though i think the last is 84 or something close), and there was an amount of trial and error but i managed to make the mario power-up sound in the end.
