Hi,

I've run into a really weird situation that I don't think any previous post addresses. I have my blue MPC1000 (with free version of the JJ OS) midi handshaked to a Yamaha MM6. I made a sequence that has about 20 midi tracks and only 2 drum tracks. I was about to start making several sequences using all the same tracks with the ultimate intention of arranging them into a song in song mode. I ordered the first two sequences in song mode and then hit play start. The first sequence played perfect but when it was time to transition to the next sequence there was a noticable delay. Its as if my syhthesizer doesn't play anything on 1.01 of the next sequence but picks right back up in a second or less. I thought this might be becasue I maxed out the keyboard's 32 note polyphony on 1.01. However, if I just play the sequence on loop from the main screen everything is fine. It's not till I going into song mode or even next sequence mode when there is a delay even if I have the same sequence back to back. Technically speaking, what happens when you play a sequnce on loop in the main screen that does or does not happen when you play that same sequence back to back in song mode? This boggles my mind. What also bothers me is that the problem doesn't go away until I delete 12 or so tracks. I've played with this for hours. It doesn't appear to be any one track that is causing the problem as I've tried to delete each track one by one and test song mode along the way. I'm not using any control changes. I've tried trimming the duration of notes in step edit so there aren't so many notes being played on 1.01. Even if I solo a track, the delay occurs in song mode (by the way does polyphony get eaten up even if the track is muted?). Is it possible too much info is being sent via my midi cables or that the cables are in some way malfunctioning? I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance for already helping me with a ton of other problems/questions. This is the first time I have actually had to post anything on this forum. Every other problem I've ever run into was easily fixed just by reading someone elses post and response.

Thanks again,

B Howe

good luck with this, i cant be of help, i doubt ive ever used that many midi out tracks/events before,
and rarely go into song mode. but in an overall midi way it seems as if the mpc is struggling to output all the events in time.

did u delete each track at a time in an order? it looks like u did, but i was gonna say, could it be a couple of particular offending tracks - and not just the volume of data over many tracks?

I did delete them in order and I can't find any specific track or group of tracks that are the culprits. It just appears to be the overall volume. Thanks a lot though.

Yes, I definitely use program changes. I have a few tracks that all use the same drum kit from the MM6, but about 15 other tracks all have different PC, MSB, and LSB data. I'm using a lot of different instruments. Do you have any suggestions/solutions???? Good looking out.

Have all individual program changes on different tracks and only initialize them at the beginning (possibly have a just 1-bar "init"-sequence).

and/or

You can insert program changes from event mode and you can try having program change just before next sequence.

yeah put the PC's in early or, i found that editing notes in a sequence to avoid any immediate notes on down beats worked really well.

my nordG2 engine was being punched by a few PC's often only four at one time - even on separate channels, but all the best results were from PC's on the first tick of a bar, only as long as the note events werent actually occuring until at least a few ticks later - like on the 2nd to 4th 16THs. etc... so all my tunes had tunes rolling in instead of great big drops onbeat....some even later like half a bar in. so everything sounded well tight despite lots of automation re: patches .

Yo thank you guys so much. It did in fact have to do with program changes. I wasn't really using program changes per se (every instrument already had its own track). However, the option "transmit program changes in this track" in the program change window was defaulted to "yes". I simply switched this to "no" for every track and everything works perfect now. I never would have played around with this without your help. Thanks again.
