Akai is even calling the new operating system OS2! Now it's all becoming clear. They allow JJ to research and develop the ideal MPC OS on his own, and then have their new programmer copy his features. Pretty wild.

What features are you saying they copied from the JJ OS?
They copied stuff from the 4k.

Global program editing, instrument programs, but what really seems JJ-ish is that image of the Qlink data editing window! Also, it looks like samples will be listed alphabetically. The 5000 will also have the ability to assign samples to a program in Trim Mode, similar to JJ OS2.

Keep in mind I don't use a 4000, so that could in fact be the origin of these features in an MPC.

i keep thinking that akai and JJ are somehow still intouch.

i mean stealth marketing is a very shrewd business. and survives completely on invisibility.

Pretty far from the truth, and be grateful that it isn't the case.

the best jjos features came from the 4000, others came from other stuff
only a few are purely original, and even they might be "from" something else - layer crossfade for example (if only that was possible for inst pgms) but all that stuff can be done better in other apps/soft samplers

the truly unique "feature" of jjos is the ease of use once you know how to move around in it. it's the original whole built by the unoriginal parts that's the real business

I just wish more 1k users were familiar with thee 4k so more 4k features would get added or at least asked for.
Pretty much everything he's added is a variant of a 4k feature but with a less advanced aspect and/or capability.
Not saying that in a bad way just that things on the 4k go really deep.

I am still waiting for JJ to add the ability top drop markers on a sample in realtime like on the 4k. :D

I was also hoping when JJ put up the XL for the 2500 that the 1k would get 1.07 and it would have the old style SIMULT.

i have ran through most of the features in the jjos line. and they all exist in my mc-909. and nym is right. its the ability to take whats good with a variety of gear and implement those features logically into one unit. thats what makes a good programer.
