can anyone explain the theory behind xfade loop cause i'm not clear on what its different options do, and how best to utelise this feature

also, what sort of samples does it work best with? is it just similar to say alternate loop, or can it produce completely unique manipulation of sounds?

thanks

its fer sounds that dont loop well... but not really fer beat loops but never say never i always say yes i do.

the idea is that rather than looping directly from loop end to loop start, you fade from the end of the loop to the beginning, eliminating the chance of a click. you can usually specify the size in samples of the fade, and the curve.

ok, have experemented a bit and it makes for smoother loops, but what am i actually changing?? what are the following:

'\'
'/'
'<Zcross'
'Zcross>'

i only noticed thid screen post-os2xl so assumed it was related to xfade.

what is the zero crosspoint locater then?

ok, have read-up and am now fine with crossfade-loop, but am still unsure what these options are for from the looping window screen:

'\'
'/'
'<Zcross'
'Zcross>'

anyone?

this window is like a kind of microscopic view of the very start and end points in the looped part of the wave,

arrow keys up/down vertically enlarge the waves view. [zoom in]/ [zoom out] close in on the wave horizontally.

the idea behind it - is that its possible to tidy up a clicky loop, by finding similar start and end points, the trick is to try to get the cycle of a wave so that its a smooth curve with no stepped or immediate transition through the cross over, as if it was one continuous wave shape.

so any sharp deviation from the general curve will result in a click or high freq anomaly.

eg: clicky sounding loop......

eg: smooth sounding loop......

<zcross moves the loop left to the next zero crossing (a point at which the sample is at zero amplitude in its cycle. any loops starting and ending at zero points will be (theoretically) click free.

zcross> does it to next zero point on the right.

/ and \ i think would be the directio of the wave join, cycle moving up wards, and downwards respectively.
