Hi, Guys
what's up ?
i need your help:
i've sent groove templates of the MPC60 and SP1200 to JJ.
And i asked him if he could incorporate them in the next os update...
I hope he will listen to my wishes.
If yes, it would be a major update for lots of us.
i think it would really makes the difference between the one who still hesitate to upgrade to JJ.
i've lots of friends who still use MPC 60, MPC2000XL and MPC 3000 and E-MU SP 1200 for their legendary grooves !!!
the ease of use of the 1000 and 2500 with the quantize of the MPC60 + quantize of SP1200 should make JJOS the ultimate tool for production.
that's my point ;)
if we are a lot asking this features i'm sure JJ will add them.
peace

for now you can use them in a DAW software like ABLETON or Cubase or Logic in order to give your beats theses grooves as master groove.
i'm not very experienced in this, that's why i'm trying to learn what can be done or what can't..

sorry to contradict you Mr Scarecrow but you're absolutely WRONG on this point. I've worked on MPC 2000 XL, MPC 3K, SP1200 and MPC2500 and i can assure you that the timing of them is very different. If you're making dance music or rock, the groove might not be a essential point for you but if you're in the HIP HOP, SOUL Game... it's fondamental !!!
listen to classics of Primo, Jaydee, Madlib, DRE and Pete Rock... and i would say why don't you know ?

im very sceptical about any difference in timing between the swing on 60 ,2000 and 1000. they all have 96 ppq andwhen you set a specific swing value - the notes will go to the same tick value. Any difference in timing is more likely to be because precise editing of sample start points isnt as accurate in the older models. I havent used the sp, but i own a 60 and a 1000.

mikolo, im part way agreeing, i think any 96ppqn is gonna show very few subtleties in groove terms - and fo sure, the samples back then were sampled a little off - and if their sample resolution was low (8, 12bit) even more 'funk' would seep into the music.

yet it has often been said that its mostly down to the actual timing clocks in the cpu/clock chips at the heart of the sequencers.

like the old amiga pc's were renowned for their timing accuracy, and the atari's were even more respected for super sharp accuracy. and at that time, they made the apple mac's software sequencers look like jelly as far as solid timing clocks go.

I've owned the sp-1200 for 5-6 years and I think a lot of cats don't realize that the joy of the sp-1200 is not necessarily its timing (which is dope), but its sound and ease of use. One thing about the sp-1200 that gives it a human feel is that the sequencer does drift in tempo. It is NOT super steady and accurate. I have slaved ableton to it and watched the bpm read out in ableton change up and down. When I track beats into pro tools of logic, I slave the sp to the DAW clock. NO, it doesn't lose its "magic swing" (goddamn myth) but simply follows the grid a bit nicer so I can copy/paste verses/hooks/etc.

I've done the double bpm while using 1/8 and 67 or 71% swing on the sp-1200. I've also used it in normal bpm with 1/16 triplets. A lot of cats in the 90s were simply used 1/16 triplets.

Either way, now that I treat the sp-1200 like a rack (sounds only), I don't think my beats have suffered at all. Its really not that big of a deal and I honestly think it gets hyped by non-owners. I'd bet nobody could tell which joints on my myspace page were SEQUENCED using the sp-1200, the eps 16+, or the mpc 1000 (sound IS a different story). (I've used the sp to sequence a bunch of other samplers, even plug ins like battery before).

My roommate has a 3k, I have a 1k, and an sp1200. My father has a 2000 classic. All of em can rock in the right hands. You just have to have rhythm and some programming skill.

Program with no soul, and your beats will have no soul.

what is this soul about ? LOL
i'm sorry guys but MPC different timings... is no myth perhaps you won't notice the difference...i do !
and why some of you don't use mpc 1000 timing correct ? it's probably because you find it too rigid.Anybody has the right to have his own process, that's not the point.
i love making music that's my passion, using timing correct doesn't mean you have no soul.
i'm not a professionnal drummer but i know when i like a groove.
when i use a mpc3000 or a sp1200, i'm always satisfy with the way my beats are grooving using quantification. On the mpc2500 i'm not as please with it. That's my point of view and that's why i though it would be great if JJ was able to program these new quantizes for his OS.it's probably possible, probably not...
but for what i see most of the people who talk on this topic are not interested by these fonctions. Or maybe the ones who are don't express themself because they don't want others to give them lessons on what should be the right way too make good music :p
don't take it personally, i was angry with my mpc tonight !!!
