Recording Audio Tracks

Is there a way to record vocals to the audio tracks at the same time as the beat is playing? because I can only record to a metronome with no music.

OOh, good timing. I was just searching you tube for this. I usually do this type of thing on my Fantom, but I was wondering how it works on the Mp with JJ.

sure, just set the recording to the correct input, get an audio track, make sure any tracks u want unmuted, then hit record.

I use the "Input thru" and choose the channel my mic is plugged in(in this case just say right chan) and then choose an audio track(say audio track 60) and , Once I hit record the only thing I get is a metronome, the tracks that I want to hear are NOT muted and should be playing but I only get a metronome.

I think you and I are looking for the same thing. Where you can say put on headphones and play the tracks and record something like vocals or a guitar at the same time. So you can play to the music, but not rerecord it... I'm starting to think this might not be posible without hard disc recording

Aright, I figured out your problem based on that last post. Don't worry about the INPUT THRU setting. To record an audio Track, you select the input by pressing Window button while the cursor is on Track type (where it says Drum, Midi, or in this case AUDIO).

Got it happening now? I'm a huge fan of audio tracks... fastest way for me to get ideas down.

Im about to go home and get blunted and **** kill some of these tracks ive made, hella raw old school type shit.

The advantage of recording directly to hard-disk is primarily space-- You don't have to clog up your RAM, if you're doing multiple takes or long recordings. The second advantage is that your takes are immediately saved to disk. (You don't have the extra step of saving them from RAM, and then eventually loading them to RAM.)

Again droppin' more knowledge on the subject, props bro! Now I see a real benefit to the HD.

I hate to be the party pooper yall but, recording your 16, or whatever bar vocals in the mpc is prob not a good idea....

# 1. it will PUNISH your mpcs ram/hard drive (mpc samples are 16 bit WAV files)

#2. if you mess up, you will have to re record your whole VERSE/HOOK again.. (no punch-ins)

#3.AFTER you record your vocals in the mpc, they will have to be assigned to a PAD.. and if you do not apply NOTE ON, each timeyou start/stop the beat in the mp, your vocal will continue to play until the end..

#4. it would slow down your work flow

#5. you will have to track it down in the daw anyway.

and the list goes on...

but, a couple bars of vocals, and guitars LOOPED is fine..

I dont plan on using this for recording anything serious, just to record chorus loops and mess around with 8 bar verses.

You can always delete a take if it sucks, and you can always start recording at any bar you wish... :-\

Other tracks are not reproduced when [REC]+[PLAY] or the [PLAY START] key is pressed. Only recording is carried out.

When [OVER DUB]+[PLAY] or the [PLAY START] key is pressed, it records playing back other tracks.

even if you are only recording 8 bar verses, it would still be a lot more work then doing it in a daw..

also..

you COULD record at any bar..

HOWEVER, you still will need to assign every vocal track to a pad, and you still won't be able to punch in.
