If you could have one bit of functionality introduced to JJ what would it be and why ?

os2xl - increase PAD PATTERN/VIEW mode to 2 bars instead of just 1 so that double resolution people can actually use it

otherwise, i can't really think of much. using the mpc truly integrated with a daw application has removed completely the concern about simult and midi ccs, and there resulting sound/workflow is much better when using ccs + plugins and layering via Poise instead of simult, so i can't complain there

there are small things here and there, but offhand i can't think of many. bug fixes would be great. simult pgm would be cool, but not so much for me because i don't use the mpc independently anymore.

chop to preset program would be good, so that after chopping your samples are automatically xfaded and dropped into a pgm you set up once. this way you wouldn't have to always set up your chopped sample pgm (all my non-drum chopped sample pgms are always set up the same way so this would save time)

small things, really. i'd be more interested in the bug hunt and workflow improvements.

to which os? :D

me? to OS2 Q-link in GPE, that's all here

I even imagine 4bars of pattern switched with banks ABCD,
also in os2 there is an option in pattern, where you enter notes on 16th grid.. like on a step sequencer 4x4, where is that in xl? or is it deleted from the current os?

You must have read my mind, Nym.

SIMULT FIXED!
Thats all i'm waiting for.
I dont want to go back to os2 cause i've been waiting for the TC strength, filter 2 and normalize % for so long. all the os needs is for simult to work how it should. Nym i know you have been using software to bypass this problem and i'm sure its working great for you but the mpc should do this, it just such an important function in drum programing. Not needing to use a computer at all while creating music is great. keeps the mind flowing. so all the os needs is simult to work correctly.
Peace!

while i'd like to see an improved old simult style function in os2xl specifically for you folks, i have to say that i disagree with the statement that the incorporation of a computer impedes the mind's flow - if that's the case, take a hard look at whatever program is holding you back and UNINSTALL

mpc + reaper + poise = easier, better sound, more options, and better polyphony usage than OLD SIMULT!! preview potential sample layers while sequence plays back, tons of wicked humanization options, pad offset, different sample layer playback styles (layer tight, layer loose, velocity range, round robin)...the options blow the mpc out of the water for LAYERED stuff.

for chopped breaks, MPC only. fuk a rex, jjos2xl is the master of all sampling and slicery

If JJ could/would simply fix the note repeat bug in both OS2 and OS2XL mentioned a while back in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=100801

then I would be prefectly happy.

EDIT: I just got an update on NOTE REPEAT with MIDI keyboard: That bug fix isn't possible according to JJ so we'll have to do without it. NOTE REPEAT works with the pads only.

Oh yeah, adding a "realtime timestretch" feature and making OS2 XL backwards compatible with programs and sequences created in OS1 and OS2 would be a definite plus. Even better would be the ability to export programs in S5000/S6000 .akp format or MPC4000 format for use in other machines. However, I don't think any of this is going to happen.

i'm not sure if this could actually work in principle or if it would just make a right racket, but maybe if different tracks could have different tempos, to create some sort of polyrythms. also maybe achieved by different numbers of bars per track in a sequence. each starts at the same time, just some run faster to get to the same end point

also, more real-time control. even if its just swing attached to a qlink

try this one, set sequence to 1 bar, make it's time signature i.e. 3/4 ok?
record one bass note (sub kick) on the first tick, move to the next track and record simple 16th hat as a metronome. ok? now copy both bars to have them many.
select next track and play a simple 4/4 beat to that hat.
now mute the metronome hat.

it's^^^ just an other way around example,
basically 4/4 signature is most universal to fit in all time signatures,

lat's say 1 track (drum) is playing 4/4 beat 90bpm
second playing a bass at 3/4
third playing melody at 5/4
4th track is recorded at 7/8

one can say the beat is playing 90bpm
bass is 120bpm
melody is 72bpm
and 4th is at 102.9bpm

+they have the same looping end point

you know what I mean?

i can see what you mean, but its pretty a unflexible way of working and would be a real ball-ache, specially with quantize etc. i'd rather say create something in straight 4/4 and then be able to change track settings later to mix things up a bit

cosign on each track having it's own tempo - as long as it was adjustable on the fly.
