Keyboard attachment help

Got the 2500 and just always used the "16 levels" function to play in things like bass lines in different keys. As this is limited I just got a keyboard to improve things but when I hooked it up it just assigns the different sounds to the different keys rather then being able to take one sound and play that accross the key range. Any help would be appreciated to do this. Please keep the instruction simple because I'm not too good with abbreviated technical terms that everyone on here seems to know. Thanks.

I don't use an external keyboard directly linked to the MPC via MIDI - and have an MPC1000 - but think you'll need to either use Auto-Chromatic to spread your sample across the key range or manually tune the sample and assign to different key ranges.

The OS that you're using will be a factor in which options are available to you.

Thanks for that. It's the JJOS version OS1 5.55. Manual tuning is long, do you know what OS you can hook up the Auto-chromatic on?

Thanks. From that it looks good to go on the "auto chromatic assignement". Does anyone know how to put that into effect onto a keyboard. Can't find anything in the akai manual.

it's not an akai thing... it's a jjos thing, so you won't find it in the akai manual.

You'll want to read on the JJOS web pages online manual how to set it up. It is pretty straight forward and it is a quick way to make a program from 1 sample that you can then play from a keyboard.

jjos2 will give you the inst pgm function that you are looking for. autochrom isnt exactly what you need.

Ok thanks. So i'll upgrade to JSOS2. Once that OS is running will it automatically work that way or is there a specific mode you need to set it to in order to operate the keyboard on a scale rather than each sound to an individual key?

create new pgm
inst pgm
enter pgm mode
assign the sample to the range
make sure the original note or the key correspondence won't be correct

nym has a video on youtube showing exactly how to do this. so look up his vid and walk through it step by step as he does it and you should be fine.
