Anyone else notice this? I see them moving further away from the incredible customer communication they were known for.

eh? i never found much feedback, occasionaly a message saying it will be fixed in the next release

os2xl definately seems to be the final jjos for sure, and the bug fixes seem to have dried up. hope i'm wrong

I stand by my statement.... 6 months ago they were in excellent communication, maybe not incredible. But compared to large software companies, and factoring in the language barrier?

I think you're the first person to predict XL as the last JJ OS. Things do seem to be pointing in that direction unfortunately. I'll be really disgusted if the final JJ OS has this crippled simult pad system.

I also think this will be the last os JJ does, but I predict he'll bring back a better Simult mode as his final curtain call...

wonder if the development does stop if JJ will make the code open source? why wouldn't he?? might be the best thing that could happen to the 1000/2500. the password restriction might be removed too - that would make a lot of people happy!

Sure, that would be nice but I don't think that's going to happen. It definitely wouldn't make much business since for JJ to do that especially considering the fact he's make a huge profit from it.

I suspect that the developer hardware/software may have licensing or proprietary issues that may make it illegal to distribute those pieces at least.

Not having a compiler would certainly make it less enticing for somebody else to pick up the work.

It'd be neat for AKAI to undercut him by releasing it themselves, should they decide to not develop further official upgrades for the 1000. Such a move would certainly give the machine a new lease of life and boost interest.

first of all, way to bump a 3 year old topic.

second, the ONLY thing WAKAI has managed to do right in the past several years or so was to screw over the original programmers of their mpc1000 os who then left, which led to akai releasing the incomplete & buggy piece of sh!t that was the original akai os. this set the stage for JJ to step up & save the day with the JJ OS, which not only corrected all of the serious akai bugs but also added a ton of new features that continues to this day. so if akai hadn't been so incompetent & shady, there never would have been a JJ OS. i thank them every day for that.

the only reason the 1000 & 2500 still sell is because of JJ & the legacy of Roger Linn. all akai can do now is shamelessly rip off other companies products & try to catch up. JJ doesn't need to be 'undercut' as you put it. he needs all the support we can give him. there is no major software or hardware company around that can compare with the level of support that he gives, especially considering he is just a one man operation. have some respect for the guy who has been busting his ass all these years to make our mpcs better.
