would anyone else love to see a hotkey button for an easy SEQ change?
i really love the ability to hold MODE and spin the data wheel to change my tracks, this is really a number one workflow facilitator...unbelievable what a difference this makes.

i find myself wishing there was a similar modifier to change the SEQUENCE similar to MODE+DATA WHEEL for TRACK.

i don't know which button would be good for this though
i'm thinking numeric-if you TAP numeric, it behaves as normal
if you turn the data wheel while HOLD numeric, it's a SEQ CHANGE hotkey.

this works in my mind because it doesn't interfere with normal use of the NUMERIC key. people who are using NUMERIC aren't often using the DATA wheel at the same time, correct? they're hitting the pads to type in numbers.

with any luck this would be an easy addition AND an enormously helpful one...

i'm just gonna keep posting til my thought process is complete:

currently, you have to return to the MAIN SCREEN to change the active sequence.

say you've made 4 seqs and you want to turn on a midi channel for track 3 on each seq.
as it is currently, you have to go to the main screen, click down to MIDI, change the midi out, return to the SEQ selection, turn it, click down to the MIDI, change the midi out, etc....

very cumbersome. a hotkey modifier would allow you to keep the cursor in the same place and just navigate between seqs...

Actually that's a terrible idea, it would cause you to change screen the moment it's pressed.

Numeric + Data wheel for MPC1000
Enter (from numeric field) + Data Wheel on MPC2500.

Some people actually use the numeric field and the data wheel.
If you key in a value and have to fine tune it you spin the data wheel instead of trying to input sequential numbers.
How often someone does this may vary.
Putting the function on the Numeric key would make it somewhat haphazardous like the Tap Tempo/Note Repeat function which should have never ended up on one Button.
I hate that function because it shares two improbable functions and is on the wrong side of the machine for Note Repeat.
Using the Pad for tap tempo was at least an attempt but comes with it's own set of problems.

If he wants to do something like that make it at least SHIFT +.
That will assure you are actually trying to change sequences.

I quess I'm different from most, I desire smooth functionality and workflow more than speed.

Can't use Shift + Jog Wheel as this is used for data selection in certain screens. Want to be able to change sequence in any screen. Can't see any other button suitable on the 1k.

Not got a 1k. Can you explain a bit more about what you mean about the Numeric key. I though it just enabled you to use the pads for numbers. Or does it jump you to a numeric field if you're not in one? You seem to jump fro, talking about numeric field (2k5) to numeric key (1k.) Until you have entered a value the Enter button in the numeric field wont do anything, so seems a good candidate (2k5.) Unless you enter a number by Numeric + Pad then I don't see why Numeric + Data Wheel shouldn't be acceptable on the 1k.

Also you are incorrect. If you type a number then nudge the Jog Wheel you go back to the value you were at before, not adjust from the new value. You have to hit Enter for it to take and then be able to adjust with Jog Wheel. So the buttons are never in use at the same time. At least with the 2k5.

I guess I assumed the understanding of SHIFT + NUMERIC :?

Of course we are talking about hitting enter then spinning the wheel.

the numeric key is already optionally numeric on os2xl- it can also be assigned to flick to other screens.

what id like is the option for numeric key to change the behaviour of the up/down arrows, here how i see it:

on the fly program changes or sequence changes are inexact when using the data wheel - its easy to go past the next pgm or sequence. hitting the numeric key would make the up down arrows plus/minus in single steps - ideal for switching to adjacent pgms or seqs during live performances.(for pgm changes think of having adjacent pgms with different effect settings or samples muted when playing live to create mutes on particular sounds etc)

e.g. currently we have:
numeric: numeric
numeric : mode change
my suggestion would be
numeric : increment : seq/pgm
when the button was pressed the arrows would work like this until the button was pressed again.

it also bugs that you cant use the numeric mode button to switch straight to the input thru screen, something that'd make up for JJos's lack of input thru qlink adjust (unless your on the input through screen with os2xl- hence the convenience of having a shortcut)

Hitting then; not holding and... Do you see the difference?

But as just been pointed out both machines have cursor buttons. How about sticking with Mode, as it's already used for Track changes, but using it with either <> or ^v for Sequence change?

Personally I don't think I would want a shortcut for change program, especially as all the cursor keys are in a little block on the 2k5, as it makes it more likely to accidentally change the program used within a track.

I just see the potential for it to act like the TAP TEMPO and occassionally get confused as to what you are asking for.
That's why adding the SHIFT key was my suggestion for distinquishing the desired condition.
I guess he could use the Cursor keys to navigate the SEQ choice as well.

As long as nothing gets broken in the process short cuts are nice.

On the 1k Tap Tempo is already shared with Note repeat, which seems a little weird to me and not the best idea.

Anyway I'm off home now. Have a good weekend and thanks for your patience.

But yeah Mode + Cursor does seem to have come out for sounding like the best combo IMO.
