Hi,

I just bought my mpc1000 and the jj os1(which it rocks!!), and I was wandering if there is a way to control the mpc's filters with an external midi controller.

I used to have an s3000xl I know its way old but this one was able to do it.

yes, but its only in later OS's, i think OS2XL,

CC73 and 74 i believe, search some of NYM's posts, nearly every one has some reference to it or other. ; )

[MIDI IN]
MIDI CC Number02 or 74 ==> Filter Cutoff
MIDI CC Number71 ==> Filter resonance
(Only active track )
It is added to the value of a program.

os2 only,
after experimenting, os2xl will receive the filter cutoff cc's but not resonance

both os's recieve pitch bend .

Works on both 74 and 71 in XL.
Works with filter on in the Program or as a Q-Link control.
You have to remember to set the value field to "0" or the MPC won't acknowledge the incoming value.
With all the dumb feature request people make seems strange no one request more incoming CC's, the addition of INST tracks makes it pretty much a requirement.

sorry just to clarify:

soveriegns made me think that what i said is not quite right, from memory i think it might be that you cant record both cutoff and resonance properly on to the same track.

It allows you to control and record both Cut-off and Reso in realtime which is why it's better than messing with the Q-Links.
We just need JJ to give the MPC's more CC's that it responds to like Modulation, Pan, Sends, Volume, Attack, Decay............

yeah thats what i thought it would do , but it doesnt seem to behave like that on my 1000. I can record pitch bend and filter sweeps and have them play back simultaneously, but cant get resonance and cutoff working simultaneously. In realtime are you sure that one doesnt take over from the other "between messages" so to speak. Ill double check with mine when i get some time.

Yes I'm very sure, I do it all the time.
The Q-Links on the 1k are pretty cheap plus I prefer knobs for adjusting filters.
Can't see how you can do a decent filter sweep without being able to adjust them at the same time.

Just requires the both are set on the 1k to allow for a full range of travel.
Works either on the filter being turned on in the program or as a Q-Link funtion assigned to a track.

If nothing more he could re-route the sequencer data to accomplish the task.

The stripped Q-Links and lack of automation make the CC's far more valuable in XL
The addition of the INST Program makes external realtime control very desirable.

We may not need full CC support but he should add as many as possible.
