Are the 20 effect setups independent from songs and sequences?

Or is there some way to tie a certain effect-setting to a sequence (or song) so that when changing sequence (or song) I will also change effect settings?

Yeah, the FX-sends are but I mean the settings for FX1 and FX2, they are stored in "effect setups".

These twenty effect setups are definitely completely independant of Programs and Pads but I wonder if they are also completely independent of current Sequence or Song.

FX settings are stored in the .all file. To save the FX setups, you have to save "All Seqs and Songs" which will create an .all file containing the FX setups, as well as all seqs and songs currently in memory. If you want to reload only the FX settings, the MPC will allow you the option to load just the FX setups within the .all file without having to load the whole file.

yo,

the effects can be set to independent sequences....or even independent tracks within a seq.

go to the step edit list in a sequence, go to "insert",scroll to the "effect" listing then select the effect number (corresponds to the effects setups page, where they're stored numbered 1 to 20). **but are NOT saved IN a seq, its the .ALL file is where this info is saved.

so in each sequence if u have a favourite fx set for the stuff in any seq, it will be recalled at the time the sequence starts.

the fx# can be inserted into any track in that seq, so in practice its really easy to switch between fx# live by un-muting the tracks with the fx# on.

i like to set the fx# inserted to say each quarter note so that if i want to "punch " between fx, i can do it by unmuting the track, the fx changes on beat . this can be elaborated upon to a greater degree of density, beware of tiny clicks as the "audio phase" is interrupted due the fx changes being altered abruptly....some are worse than others, and indeed, if theres a mad delay with feedback and deep fx, these can bleed over into each other for other dirty fx action.

PS JJ!, If JJ would give us a holy grail of 'smoothing' between fx switches if be one slinky happy mother crusher.

niiiice tip! good to see you back, arebee.

i wonder what happens if you set up a conflict: unmute 2 different tracks with 2 different fx settings simultaneously. does the MPC freak out? give the highest track # priority? have to try this out...

this fx talk makes me wish even more that JJ would fix that huge FX routing bug (even tho he says it's 'impossible').

if i'm not mistaken this is 100% Akai spec, no? 1 thing they managed to get right.
of all the changes JJ has made to the original akai OS, the one thing he has never touched is STEP EDIT. it's still like preserved in amber prehistoric akai code.

I was wondering why my effects weren't saving when I saved the programs and single sequences. Thanks for the tip!.. 8)

FX send bug, FX1 to FX2 'Send : amount' not working

"FX1 type: reverb
To FX2: YES Send: *0-100"

* any change in value has no change on send levels to FX2.

btw: the same bug exists in os 2 & 2xl & JJ has said it is 'impossible' to fix (which i just don't believe... but what can you do?).

the question then would be - is it something that also occurs in akaiOS?

'cos the fx architecture appears to be the same in akai as JJ OS, ie: untouched.... so im wandering if he's right - or its a JJ trade off between something JJ did somewhere that shouldn't be tampered with

Oh yea! Cheers arebee! :D

All this time i thought the mpc was limited to one set of fx for the whole project. The more time i spend with the mpc and reading the forums the more i learn and the more ways i find of being creative with it. I really should RTFM!

it's my guess that this is an akai bug, but i can't say for sure. i only used the akai os for about 5 seconds and that was just to install the JJ OS.

but that doesn't mean that he shouldn't be able to fix it. i mean, c'mon... he's already changed all this other akai stuff, why not that? how can that be so complex?

maybe i'll bug him about it again sometime, but somehow i think it's pretty much a lost cause communicating with JJ at this point until he is done with all his JJ sequencer stuff since that is where his head is at these days.

well, i didnt R it in T FM!, ehheh,

'twas merely a matter of finding myself (yet again), cursor somewhere on a screen, armed with a data wheel, naturally i find myself scrolling right through any options available at any particular time to see the possibilities......this time was the 'step edit' page, scroll, scroll, scroll, see - 'insert', 'effect' , BANG!

"now i can insert all these different things into my seqs' " i thought.....and the work flowed on, in new directions, more to keep me entertained/busy/learning/happy etc.

try it - the data wheel explorer kit - on a fresh project though, so nothing's at risk.
