MPC as V-Drum Brain... high hat control question

I'd like to be able to use the MP like the brain of a V-Drum set. I've connected an Alesis Trigger Pad by midi, which can accommodate a kick pedal and high hat pedal. The kick pedal works ok--just as well as if I hook the pedal into footswitch 1 and assign it to trigger the pad with my kick on it. The high hat could be better though.

I want to set up the MP so that if the hat pedal is down and I strike a pad, it will play a closed hat, but if the pedal is up it will play an open hat. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

I guess it would be a note/pad over-ride thing, or a midi-mapping change thing...?

if the alesis trigger sends different midi notes depending on when the pedal is up or down it'll be easy.
you'd want to set mute groups on the mpc so the closed hat cuts off the open hat.

if the alesis trigger pad doesnt send different midi notes i cant think of anything you can do in the mpc itself to make it work like you want.

yeah, I def set the mute groups for the various hats in the MP, but I was hoping there would be a more natural way to set this thing up... You might be right about finding the answer in how the alesis is set up though. thanks.

there some info on page 22, it looks like he hihat transmits note 46 with the pedal down, and 44 with the pedal up. its not totally clear though so you'll have to test it.

depending on which OS your using either put the hihats on the pads that have these note numbers, or change the note numbers of the pads themselves. if you do this and it doesnt work straight off, then i think you'll have to mess with the control pad- not the mpc. the mpc can play different sounds from the same pad but not in a way that it is useful for you (e.g. qlinks or different velocitys can control which layer of a pad plays back neither is useful if your using external midi notes and the hihat pedal)
