MPC2500 to MPC2000xl

yo, i have a 2500 jjos1 and my homie has a 2000xl.
i was wondering why the programs and sequences i made on the 2500 aren't compatible on the 2000xl, or are they?

i jst want to get all my 2500jjos1 beats onto my boys 2kxl.

if i really want to use the 2kxl, would i have to reprogram and resequence my track again? if so, i might not make the transition.

i have never tried though, if you really want to do it then i'd save seq/mid files of each sequence in your project, along with all the samples used (prechopped).. ->card/usb->pc...create programs with 'mpc editor' for the xl using the samples..
export to card..
chuck it in the xl, load seq/mid files and pgm files, knowing that the xl can only use 4 programs at once i'm pretty sure..

and if it did load up right, your filter/gpe settings and fancy tools you got in your 2500 will not be there...

you can play 2000xl pgms in the 2500 (perhaps with a few quirks in certain parameters). You cant do it the other way around unless you use conversion software like awave or translator.these cost money but do often offer usable demos.


The mpc editor and midi file option mentioned above is also a good option.

For the same reason you can't transfer a session from Cubase to Cakewalk. Two different pieces of software with parameters and functions laid out in totally different ways.

trust me on this one, your best bet is to track your beats properly (each instrument on separate track) in your DAW and then not have to worry about old pgms seq (still keep pgm and seq)

ive switched mpcs couple of times mpc2kxl -> mpc4k -> mpc2500 (still can load data, but need to reassign pgms, and adjust seq.) and also switched keyboards, and daws - so much work i'd be better off resampling my samples and remaking the beat from scratch. ive lost shit for various reasons, the biggest being dis organization of my files, overwritten disks, forgotten beats, etc.

If you have to switch for whatever reason, dont think "i can always load up my old shit, fix it later, or whatever, or save up for a new mpc2500". record that shit now if its truely a beat thats worth it otherwise it aint gonna happen.....

maybe im being a bit negative, but ive lost at least 5 good bangers in the archives because i never tracked em, lost files, forgotten beats, no longer owning equipment, etc. i never took the time to track them correctly so all i have are 2 tracks of em, and if i want to mix them better, i'd have to recreate them, and good luck in me finding the original seq. and pgms, yeah, im sure they there somewhere, but by the time i find them, i might as well resample the record and re - seq, especially since i'd make em knock harder now.

I'm just saying, learn from my stupid mistakes and do the shit up properly when you have both mpcs, or when you can still record them correctly.
