I'm currently using the free one, but is it considerably better to get the paid versions, and if so, which one? it's what, $100 for the best one after you buy version 1 and then upgrade to version 2?

if you have a 1k then you can get alot more out of ver1 for $50. but if you have the 2500 then its like 115 for all of them. os1 is almost a must. there are a few things that you get with os2 that can help you out alot if you dont have other equipment to work with. but os1 give you a big jump in features over the free version.

as far as OS2XL and all that for a 1000, is it not worth it?

Version 2 (not XL) without a doubt: XOX style sequencing and 'Grid Edit (DRUM) Loop Edit Mode'.

i'm using JJ OS 3.08 (free)

these audio tracks are cool, i'm recording my guitar, but why is there a gap before the audio starts playing ? first two tracks went fine, third one is totally out of sync.
is there a work-around ?

thanks

How does XL benefit the 2500?

IMO, OS2's XOX style step sequencing and the ability to edit loops during playback in the Grid far outweigh XL's lousy arpeggiator and chord input.

It really depends on what you need.

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/chart.htm

View the OS comparison chart and decide for yourself...

I had bought OS 1 pretty much for MTC (Midi Time Code) alone and discovered sooo much more.
The work flow improvements are incredible.

based on that chart, doesn't XL have the same as OS2 but just more stuff for the most part? or is there something drastically different? theoretically an extra 14 bucks means i may as well just get XL assuming it's the same but just has more stuff

Nope, JJ removed stuff in XL, particularly XOX style step sequencing and the ability to edit loops during playback in the Grid, and other stuff I can't think of at the moment.
