MPC and DSI Mono Evolver Keyboard - Midi question

Hi guys - new here so go easy

I'm going mad over this one so some help would be really appreciated!
I've got my MEK midi out going into midi in (1) on my MPC2500 (JJOS2XL). Midi out (B) on the MPC2500 going to midi in the MEK. I have the MEK set to local control "off" and transmitting/receiving on midi channel "1" and the MPC soft-thru to "as track". I have bunch of other drum-machines, synths etc connected to MPC but they should be irrelevant!

So..I can select the active track on MPC to B1 and play and record the MEK. When i'm not on active track B1 I can't play the MEK. This is obviously correct and how I want it. However, when I want to record knob tweaks from the MEK front panel it works for a bit but then completely spanners up and results in the MEK sounding like noise. Where am I going wrong? I used to be able to use it this way on my MV8800 without it spannering up..it
s like the tweaks are too much for it (maybe doubling up or something where the soft-through is transmitting at the same time as recieing?). Or is it that the MPC can't handle this info..i think it's being recorded as sysex..?

Further info..i have the MEK "midi control" and "sysex control" both set to "on".

Any help REALLY appreciated. Maybe I just can't use it the way I want and will have to change settings each time record the knob tweaks?!

I have same problem with MPC1000 running a free version of JJOS and my vintage Roland JX-8p synth. This synth is analog but has digital controls, so every parameter can be sent to MIDI and received from MIDI.

In this setup MPC is used as a MIDI sequencer for ROland and also plays it's drum samples.
I dedicate a special MIDI channel to record Roland with program set to "OFF" and track type set to "MIDI" , but when I play notes, MPC cuts the long samples, chokes the drums etc.

I first thought there might be MIDI thru problems, but Roland seems to play fine, without any doubled notes or phasing effect. I tried two setup options: once with soft MIDI thru disabled in MPC and once with Local = off in Roland, in both cases problem remained.

I'll try to roll reinstall AKAI OS and see if that can fix it.

maybe you need to have the track set to mute on the mpc, otherwise you are effectively getting a loop of midi going from one to the other

this is definitely midi feedback. you've got a loop going on somewhere. look thru all of your settings carefully.

thanks for info all. Yes is definately feebback going on..annoying thing is is that it means I'll have to change midi settings everytime I want to record sysex or cc's from the MEK then switch back for playback..i think. Anyone else any ideas how I SHOULD have it set up correctly?

have you looked at the mute issue. if i want to record arps from say my nova into the mpc i need to mute whatever track i'm recording on until i finish recording. it still allows the note to be recorded, just not churned out again

OK, it's not a MIDI feedback, muting the current track doesn't help, neither does unplugging the MIDI cable that goes from AKAI's out back to the synth.

So this is what it looks like: playing notes on the keyboard in real time cuts the drums and other notes playing from MPC's sampler, however same notes played by MPC's sequencer through the same keyboard's synth doesn't cut any notes. Controllers, aftertouch, pitch and other info does the same.

@abtop; we're talking about different issues here. You are talking about the sampler section of your MPC being affected right? - cutting out the drum samples..
I'm talking about the sound of my MEK being affected. I think what I'm doing wrong is throwing too much through the MPC at any time. I'll give the mute tracks issue a go and muck with the local control and soft-thru functions!

right, 2 different things I found out what makes with my issue: I analysed incoming MIDI data and found out that this synth sends "All Notes Off (controller 123) message everytime I release a note. This is a vintage Roland JX-8p, 1985 made and it has some strange MIDI implementation.

MPC just does what the message says: stops all sounding notes, therefore this issue shouldn't be considered an MPC OS bug,
but I'd be glad if "All Notes Off" controller could be filtered in MPC settings.
