Well, i finally decided to move into the MPC area of workflow after a long time of using software and just recently getting into samples, triggered in Ableton via MPD. It works fine, but all the time in front of my PC makes me feeling muddleheaded and stuff.
Moreover, i come from a 'live musician - background', so own bassguitar-loops, some KeyboardChords and Trumpet-Phrases recorded straight into my beats - to accompany my sample-driven beats - is a must.
I did my homework, watched tons of YouTube Videos, read articles etc. and finally came up with the decision to buy a used MPC 1000 with the new JJ OS.
Now i want some dudes, who have experience with this piece of gear confirm me in my assumptions:
1) All of my Chops&Drumloops do not have to be sampled again into the MPC from the dusty Records they originally came from. Instead, my external harddrive (where the whole Collection is stored atm) can still work as a great library, from which i can transfer the needed Chops via some PC--USB--> MPC way. Is that true?
2) I'm used to add several layers of live instruments to a sample-driven beat. Those layers are nothing special and hardly anything longer than 20 seconds... Normally i chop those phrases up after recording to gather some 1-2 bar samples i can trigger via MIDI at any time in the beat then. Hell of important however is, that the small pieces of live instrument playing can be recorded WHILE the beat is playing on the MPC. This can be done on the MPC 1000 with a JJ OS update via Audio Tracks [ I read somewhere that the old fashioned Akai Direct Record of the MPC 2500 would be finer in some sort of way, but Direct Audio Recording should also be possible with Audio Tracks on the 1k + JJ OS]... Is that true? This would be the main factor im going for a MPC 1k instead of a 2000xl.
3) I'm rocking an Akai S950 as well, to 'punch-up' and LoFi BassLines & Drums. With my MPC 1000 its still possible and not too exhausting to sample the drum chops & BassLines from the MPC into the S950, do the funky filter work, mudden things up etc. and finally resample those worked samples into the MPC again to build up a beat. Am i right?
