I saw this on the mpc 1000 OS2XL Ver1.24 thread and thought I'd move it over here.

Do you guys think JJ is planning to come out with a new OS? Do you guys even want a new OS or would you rather it end with OS2XL?

I think we'll get another OS. The JJ sequencer doesn't look like it's going to be bringing in the amount money that JJ expected and for the most part we're all still requesting features for OS2XL (which we wont get, at least not for free). I think it would be great if JJ fixed the remaining bugs in OS2XL and then and ONLY THEN moved on to OS3 to add the remaining features that have been requested. At the same time though, we gain some new features with every OS that comes out but we also lose out on others either because of bugs, because JJ changed the way certain features work or because they're completely left out. Would you want OS2XL to be the last OS once all the bugs are worked out or would you be up for JJOS3 and all of the fun/trouble that comes with a new OS?

I voted for the OS2XL bug fix and little fee option.

Since 2006, JJ has "traditionaly" brung a new paying project at the end of the year and that time it seems to be the JJ sequencer. For that reason I don't believe in an OS3 in the near future. As one said in the forum the development of JJ sequencer and JJ os will be linked. I'm not as pessimistic as many guys in that board and I don't think the JJ sequencer will undoubtly fail.

I'm for a smooth evolution of os2xl and not a revolution. I don't want to troubleshoot and debug the OS just like when OS1 was out.

From a financial point of view, if you add let's say 50$ for an OS3 I'm not sure newbies will be willing to pay for the whole set (over 150$). I don't know the psychological barrier for the OS as I bought each OS individually when they were out but if you start from scratch over 110$ seems a lot to me.

Here are my thoughts at the moment. The only thing I want is JJ to keep developing the OS.

Peace

I'd like him to remove arp and chord for starters and bring in overdub audio-track record on OS2XL, and allow editing in grid edit whilst the sequence is playing (I still can't believe that this is not standard).
That's all I want.
ATM :P

+1

Yeah I never use arp or chord and I think JJOS2XL would be complete for me if JJ made it possible to editing while sequence plays in grid/step edit mode (it's standard with other workstations).
