How do i edit out the strings and what not to get just the vocals? Its an old soul tune, and I am hoping to pitch it up.

dude, sorry but you cant take just the vocals out...you could use filters but youd end up just messin it all up. its basically IMPOSSIBLE to cut vocals out of a song that has other sounds or instruments playing alomg with the person singing. the only way its possible: if the vocals were recorded only on one side of the stereo mix and the instruments on the other...but really how often do you find somthing like that?

Or they could try INVERTING THE STEREO CHANNELS and subtracting them, to leave the purely centered tracks only (usually vox). But they don't sound ready for all that based on what they wrote.

all depends on what he or she does with it. correct me if im wrong but, isnt sampling on a 20 year old drum machine a little played as well? its all been done to death right??

EXACTLY..USING A SAMPLER CAN RESULT IN ANY KIND OF MUSIC NOT JUST BEATS

Awww dont get defensive man, think its pretty obvious that the majority of people on this forum enjoy using these archaic boxes to create their respective artistic creations... just pointing out the fact that its not necessary to shoot someones idea down (even if it has been done to death) unprovoked... we all at one time or another came to this forum or searched outside of our equipments manual to find answers to even the simplest of tasks... I just find it a little humorous that some of us tend to forget this after a few hundred posts, and then decide to take jabs at people who are not on their level... btw the beauty of the a sampler is the fact that you can do whatever the **** you want with it... including pitching up samples

hey brother check the left and right side of the sound. you might get lucky and they might have recorded the piece you want panned to one side. if they did just delete the side you dont want, copy the one you do and paste it where the one you deleted was. i once sampled an indian tune and the piece i wanted was panned to the left. i deleted the right side, copied the left and pasted it on the right and succesfully removed a sound from a sample(i did that in cool edit, dont know if the 1000jjos1 does it). so it actually CAN be done, its just rare. always check though.
