compressor and limiter

Yo. I've been trying to make my beats louder without getting them distorted for a long time. Finally I found a way( turned out not to be that difficult to find:))- the compressor in the effects menu. I can get great effects with it. So I decided to compress my beats. I do it like that: first I record a normal beat into sony acid, I save the whole beat as a wave file and then I transfer the newly recorded wav file onto my mpc back again. Now I assign my beat to one pad and apply compressor effect. Everything is ok and I have very nice results but I'm thinking of a limiter as some of the peaks get distorted, you know only a couple of tthem. do you know any good software limiters? And what do you think about my compression method? Maybe it's weird or stupid but it works. Maybe you can recommend some better ways of compressing whole beats?? PEACE Y'ALL

If you sending your beat outside of MP anyway then why don't you compress it outside MP ? Acid can do it far more better than MPC...
Too much hassle for nothing... but it just my opinion...
BTW: why don't u record your main outs internally in MP ?

Yea.. I just started using the compressor in the MPC lately.. works great! Overlooked it for YEARS. Been using the EQ and compression in the master efx, but never used it individually for drums.
Apart from the build quality, I really like the 2500. The 4000 is calling for me (More effects, more polyphony), but I have nothing but great news to give anyone thinking about upgrading!

BTW: why don't u record your main outs internally in MP ?

Quite not understand what You're talkin about...I always do it like this:In mute menu I solo the tracks one by one and I record them individually into sony acid so I try to do a litttle mixing stuff there but the results are not satisfying. Maybe I'm doin it wrong. How do you record the main outs internally in MPC? Peace

in the record field you will find a field in the top left corner that you can scroll through, I can remember the option but think you just scroll to main out, then press record on your mpc, then press play start an it'll record whatever sequence/song to a file that you can then edit in trim.

MODE+PAD 5 --> and change input to MAIN OUT. You can record it with one compressor setting and then use another compressor setting on output file for example treshold01 atk01 dcy00 gain00 ratio 99:1 .
But like i said if you transferring your beat outside mpc then do it outside...

I agree. If your tracking your beats outside the MP then just compress outside with softwear there are much better compressors out there some are free too.

I love my hardware compressors. The DBX 118 can be picked up cheapish; quite fffat sounding
