I know there's tons of posts here about the JJ OS, but I am new and I'm not sure how to search the forums for more precise info.

My problem is this:

I am using a Mac and an MPC 2500

I am trying to switch from Akai OS to JJ. I have downloaded and installed JJ 3.09 and then installed JJ OS 1 5.56 and I can get no further.

Whenever I try and download the XL or the OS 2 from http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/ I just end up getting gibberish text.

I can download the file by holding the alt key and then clicking on it. However, when I transfer it to the MPC it never comes up.

The 3.09 and 5.56 that I installed all showed up as bin files after they were downloaded and this was successful. These other OS have been showing up as txt files......hmmmm any ideas?

I have not yet been prompted to a screen to pay for the OS or anything so I am very confused. In the end I hope to use the OS 2 and not the XL.

Any help would be most appreciated!!!

Peace

look at the links on the download page. rename the .txt files on your desktop to have those extensions.

so
os 2: change the .txt to .os2

os2xl: change the .txt to .osx
(but you said you didn't want the os2xl so don't even bother downloading it.)

then transfer the file over to your mpc and it should install.

Thanks for the reply, I ended up saying F-it and used my PC instead of the Mac to download and make the transfer. The XL2 showed up, now I am waiting for my password.

I thought in order to get the OS 2 I had to first start with the XL2 and then make the step back, no?

Is there a way to search all of these topics by key words or do I need to just keep scrolling?

Thanks for dealing with newb!

That's right... it's easy to get misinformation on here so take some of the 'advice' with a pinch of salt.

!

oops. sorry - that was my bad. i keep getting confused between the 1000 (which i have) & the 2500.

1000 = don't need xl to install os2
2500 = DO need xl installed to get back to os2

ultra confusing the way JJ has it set up but it is what it is.
